Redfield: Nellie A. Eldeen, 92, of Redfield, died Friday, Jan. 27, 2012 at Eastern Star Home in Redfield. Her funeral will be Monday, Jan. 30, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at First Congregational UCC Church in Redfield. Reverend Tim Fugman will officiate. Burial will be in the Faulkton Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-8 p.m. with the family present from 4-6 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield.
Nellie A Tipton was born Jan. 1, 1920 to Raymond and Mabel (Dague) Tipton at their farm home in Nance Township near Wessington. She attended elementary school at the Tipton School, graduated from Wessington High School in 1938. She went to Wessington Springs College and taught school three years before marrying Clarence Eldeen in 1942. They had five children. They lived in Huron and Redfield until 1957 when the family moved to Faulkton. She started to teach again and taught several rural schools in Faulk County before teaching at the Faulkton School. While teaching she attended summer school, at Northern State College, until she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. She retired from teaching after thirty years.
Nellie moved back to Redfield in 1980 and lived at the Heartland Apartments, Golden Living Center and the Eastern Star Home.
She loved children, reading, embroidering and spending time with her family.
Blessed for having loved her are her children: Donna (Leland) Winters of Aurora, Colo.; Larry (Sharon) Eldeen of Redfield; Sheila (Earl) Sprague of Redfield; Pamela (Kenneth) Schaefer of Polo, and Craig (Kristine) Eldeen of South Jordon, Utah. She is also survived by ten grand- children, eight great-grandchildren, two sisters: Eva Mae Eldeen of Duluth, Minn. and Mabelle Barthelman of Huron.
She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence in 1982, her grandson Craig Winters, two brothers; Carl and Darold Tipton, two sisters; Evelyn Morris and Maxine Kloss and two brothers and a sister in infancy.
