Marion B. Nelson was born Oct. 18, 1924, on the family farm south of Langford, S.D., to Martin and Bertha (Monsen) Nelson. As a youngster, she grew up there and attended rural country schools and graduated from Pierpont High School.
On Feb. 23, 1941, Marion married Emil A. Anderson. They lived and farmed in the Langford area. In 1957, they moved into Pierpont and made it their home while continuing their farming operation. In 1996, they retired to Groton. Marion had worked for a number of years for Dakotah Track, both in Langford and later in Pierpont. She also worked as a teacher's aide in Pierpont. For a number of years, Marion and Emil enjoyed their lake cabin at Blue Dog Lake near Waubay.

She was currently a disciple of Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Groton. Marion was extremely active in all facets of church life, including the ladies groups, Sunday School teacher and custodian.
Marion was an excellent baker and will long be remembered for her delicious buns and cinnamon rolls. Her Norwegian heritage was evident through her baking, and lefse was another of her specialties. She was an excellent seamstress and had done many beautiful pieces of crochet work. Marion seldom missed any of her grandchildren's or great-grandchildren's sporting events. Her faith and family were of the utmost importance to her.
Grateful for having shared her life are her children: David (Linda) Anderson, Carol Anderson and fianc, Milton Sippel, Nancy (Brian) Sundstrom, all of Groton; a daughter-in-law, Loretta Anderson, of Sioux Falls; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
