Olga passed away Monday, Aug. 27, 2012, at Wheatcrest Hills in Britton at the age of 91.
Olga Jorgina Olson was born Jan. 7, 1921, to Ole M. and Ragnhil “Rena” (Thorson) Olson near Hillhead, S.D. She grew up in the Hillhead area and attended rural Marshall County Schools.
On August 31, 1941, she married John Francis Ormand in Britton. They made their first home on the Ormand family farm. Later, they moved to the farm near Hillhead, where they raised their seven children. When John retired from farming in 1975, they moved into Veblen. Olga worked for Dakotah Factory for a number of years before retiring. John passed away September 28, 1990. Olga continued to make her home in Veblen, living in an apartment on her own until breaking her hip in 2008. She has resided at Wheatcrest Hills in Britton since that time.
Olga was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Hillhead and Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Veblen. She was active in the ladies organization at Our Savior’s and belonged to one of the circles. She also was a member of the Veblen Senior Center and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Grandma Olga was always happy to make her “potato salad” and “Aunt Sally molasses cookies” for her family. She greatly enjoyed doing word find puzzle books.
Survivors include her five sons: Francis “Pat” (Connie) Ormand, Houghton; Edward Ormand, Veblen; Roger (Marjorie) Ormand, Aberdeen; Larry Ormand, Veblen; and Owen (Jackie) Ormand, Aberdeen; two daughters: Joanne (Ed) Kessler, Aberdeen; and Peggy Satrang, Britton; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Marlyn (LeRoy) Ehnes.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; two brothers: Oscar and Julien Olson; a sister, Gladys Jones; and a granddaughter, Jill Satrang.
