The daughter of a steamship company worker and a homemaker, Ethel Marie Tillery was born in Baltimore and raised near Latrobe Park.
She was a 1930 graduate of Eastern High School and worked as a secretary before marrying Paul L. Folkemer, owner of Folkemer Photo Service, in 1939.
The longtime Linthicum resident worked in a variety of media including pastels, oils, watercolors and pen-and-ink, and enjoyed painting landscapes and still lifes.
She also gave art lessons to children and adults and donated her earnings to the Christian Children's Fund.
Mrs. Folkemer had been a longtime active member of Christ Lutheran Church in South Baltimore. She also had been active in the Luther League.
After her husband died in 1994, she moved to the Charlestown retirement community in Catonsville.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Aug. 18 in the chapel of her church, 701 S. Charles St.
Surviving are a son, Paul D. Folkemer of Suffern, N.Y.; a daughter, J. Carolyn Burkhead of Ellicott City; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
