The prolific composer won three Academy Awards for "The Way We Were" and "The Sting," a Tony and a Pulitzer for "A Chorus Line" and four Emmys. Charming audiences with his improvisational agility, he was principal pops conductor for several major symphonies, including the Pasadena Symphony and Pops and Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.
