Patty Fox, 62, who produced an annual runway show previewing Academy Awards fashion trends, died Sept. 26 of ovarian cancer at the Santa Monica home of friends, said Paddy Calistro, her publisher.
From the early 1990s through this year, Fox put together a show for the international press that tried to forecast what celebrities would wear to the Oscars. The lineup was partly based on submissions by at least 30 designers.
“The red carpet has become the celebrity catwalk,” Fox told The Times in 2000. “Movie stars are the real supermodels.”
She also wrote two books for Angel City Press on the subject: “Star Style at the Academy Awards” (2000) and “Star Style: Hollywood Legends as Fashion Icons” (1995).
Born Patricia Lucille Davis in 1948 in Los Angeles, she was a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising and earned a bachelor’s in history at UCLA.
Fox, who was divorced, began her fashion career as a model and spent a dozen years at Saks Fifth Avenue, rising to fashion director for the Western region.
In the late 1980s, she launched a fashion consulting business and often appeared on television talk shows. More recently, Fox was chief creative officer at myshape.com, an online shopping site based in Glendale.
Charles ‘Doc’ Rutherford
Charles “Doc” Rutherford a longtime music professor at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa who attracted some top-flight jazz talent to the school’s annual jazz festivals from 1969 to ‘87, died Sept. 10 at Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach after a brief illness, the college announced. He was 85.
