Robert C. Todd, 78; was O.C. Superior Court judge for 15 years
Robert C. Todd, 78, former Orange County Superior Court judge, died of cancer Thursday in Newport Beach, said Carole Levitzky, a courts public information officer.
Todd was appointed to the Superior Court by then-Gov. Jerry Brown in 1978 and sat on the bench until his retirement in 1993. He was also a court-appointed referee in the Superior Court until 2000.
Todd helped found the American Board of Trial Advocates, an organization that supports the jury system, and later became a national board member.
Born Sept. 4, 1928 in Chicago, Todd grew up in Los Angeles and served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps during World War II. He received his bachelor’s degree from USC in 1951 and his law degree from Loyola University in 1957.
He worked in private practice until then-Gov. Ronald Reagan appointed him to the Orange County Municipal Court in 1973.
