Leanna Helen McCarry, age 86, of Boyne City, died Dec. 16, 2012, at the Hiland Cottage of Hospice of Little Traverse Bay in Petoskey.
Leanna was born on May 11, 1926, in Wolverine, to Thurman and Bernice (Poquette) Sutliff and was raised in Boyne City, graduating from Boyne City High School in 1944. Leanna went back to school later in life, and attended North Central Michigan College in Petoskey where she studied psychology and English.
While visiting her sister in Vancouver, Wash., Leanna met the love of her life, James McCarry and on Nov. 1, 1947, the two were married. They made their home for a short time in Vancouver before moving to Boyne City, where they remained.
Leanna worked for Courter's, now Honeywell, as an inspector, retiring from there after 27 years.
Leanna was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Boyne City, where she sang in the choir, and was also a member of the UAW Local No. 1403 and the UAW retirees group. She enjoyed reading, watching old movies, sewing, knitting, crocheting, traveling and camping.
Leanna was a mentor to a lot of people at work and was a true mother figure. She enjoyed when her friends from work came to visit and loved having children and grandchildren around her, even if they weren't hers.
She is survived by her husband, Jim; daughter, Eileen Belleau, of Boyne City; son, Tim McCarry, of Boyne City; grandchildren, Trevor, Erin, Lucas, Joseph, Logan and Allyssa; three great-grandchildren, Aliza, Lydia and Grace Lynn; and by a brother, Oral (Eleanor) Sutliff, of Boyne City.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Elinor Dubin, Lucille Nichols, Jeanne McCarry and Thurleen Eaton; and by a brother, Thurman Sutliff Jr.
A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 20, at the First Presbyterian Church in Boyne City with the family receiving friends at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday.
Arrangements are in the care of the Stackus Funeral Home of Boyne City.
