Robert W. "Bob" Brummeler, 73, of Petoskey, passed away unexpectedly on July 2, 2011.
Bob was born Dec. 4, 1937, in Port Huron, Mich., to Robert S. and Margaret W. Brummeler. He loved to sail, travel, hunt and be with his family and friends. He was an independent insurance agent for 37 years. Throughout his life he was very involved with scouting. Bob was proud that his three sons and two grandsons all became Eagle Scouts. He was awarded the Silver Beaver award by Boy Scouts of America, the highest award in scouting for a scout leader. He was very active in the Rotary, acting as District Governor for Rotary District 6290 in 1995-1996. Bob was a lifetime member of the Camp Daggett Board, and member of the Chamber of Commerce for 30 years. He was a 32nd Degree Master Mason and a member of the Elf Khurafeh Shriners of Saginaw, Mich. Bob was also an active member of the Petoskey United Methodist Church serving in many capacities and belonged to the Emmaus community. He enjoyed volunteering at Manna Food Pantry and drove for Meals on Wheels.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Judy; brother, John (Connie); two sisters, Barb Zauel (Bob) and Mary Hartz (Ted); and four children, Robert K. (Carol), Stephen W. (Lexie), Charles J. (Amanda), Ann M. Fell (John); nine grandchildren, Amy, Ryan, Claire, Charles, Hannah, Thomas, Nicholas, Allison and Matthew plus five step-grandchildren, and two step-great-grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by those whose lives he touched. Visitation and funeral services will be held at the Petoskey United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. today, Tuesday, July 5, and the funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 6.
In lieu of flowers the family is asking for donations to go to either the Manna Food Project, the International Rotary Foundation, the Petoskey United Methodist Church, or the Friendship Center. Arrangements were handled by the Charles G. Parks Funeral Home in Petoskey.
