The Defense Department last week identified the following American military personnel killed in Iraq:

James L. Adair, 26, of Carthage, Texas; specialist, Army. Adair was killed June 29 when a roadside bomb exploded near his vehicle in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division at Ft. Riley, Kan.

Raymond R. Buchan, 33, of Johnston, Pa.; sergeant first class, Army. Buchan was one of two soldiers killed July 1 when their unit was attacked with small-arms fire in Ta’meem, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 18th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division in Schweinfurt, Germany.

William C. Chambers, 20, of Ringgold, Ga.; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Chambers was one of two Marines who drowned July 1 when their boat capsized on the Euphrates River in Al Anbar province, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

William W. Crow Jr., 28, of Grandview Plaza, Kan.; sergeant, Army. Crow was killed June 28 when a roadside bomb exploded near his vehicle in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division at Ft. Riley, Kan.

Steven Phillip Daugherty, 28, of Barstow; petty officer first class, Navy. Daugherty was among three sailors killed Friday when an improvised bomb exploded under their Humvee in the Baghdad area. He was assigned to an East Coast-based SEAL team.

Steven A. Davis, 23, of Woodbridge, Va.; private first class, Army. Davis was killed Wednesday in a grenade attack on his unit in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division at Ft. Carson, Colo.

Andrew T. Engstrom, 22, of Slaton, Texas; private first class, Army. Engstrom died of noncombat-related injuries Wednesday in Taji, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 82nd Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Victor A. Garcia, 22, of Rialto ; specialist, Army. Garcia was killed July 1 when his unit was attacked with small-arms fire in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 38th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team) at Ft. Lewis, Wash.

Cory F. Hiltz, 20, of La Verne; private first class, Army. Hiltz was among five soldiers killed June 28 when insurgents detonated a roadside bomb and fired guns and grenades at their stricken convoy vehicle in southern Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division at Ft. Carson, Colo.

Shin W. Kim, 23, of Fullerton; sergeant, Army. Kim was among five soldiers killed June 28 when insurgents detonated a roadside bomb and fired guns and grenades at their stricken convoy vehicle in southern Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division at Ft. Carson, Colo.

Mendoza was among five soldiers killed June 28 when insurgents detonated a roadside bomb and fired guns and grenades at their stricken convoy vehicle in southern Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division at Ft. Carson, Colo.

Scott A.M. Oswell, 33, of Washington; chief warrant officer, Army. Oswell was killed Wednesday when his OH-58 Kiowa Warrior helicopter struck electrical wires in Mosul, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 4th Squadron, 6th U.S. Air Cavalry at Ft. Lewis, Wash.

Robb L. Rolfing, 29, of Milton, Mass.; staff sergeant, Army. Rolfing was killed June 30 when his unit was attacked with small-arms fire in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne) at Ft. Carson, Colo.

Jonathan M. Rossi, 20, of Safety Harbor, Fla.; private first class, Army. Rossi was killed July 1 when his unit was attacked with an improvised explosive device and small-arms fire in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division at Ft. Bliss, Texas.

Michael L. Ruoff Jr., 31, of Yosemite, Calif.; staff sergeant, Army. Ruoff was one of two soldiers killed July 1 when their unit was attacked with small-arms fire in Ta’meem, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 77th Armor Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division in Schweinfurt, Germany.

Christopher N. Rutherford, 25, of Newport, Ohio; first lieutenant, Army. Rutherford was killed Monday when a roadside bomb exploded near his vehicle near Balad, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the Forward Support Group, 19th Engineer Battalion at Ft. Knox, Ky.

Juan M. Garcia Schill, 20, of Grants Pass, Ore.; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Schill was killed in combat Monday in Al Anbar province, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force in Twentynine Palms, Calif.
