  • Interesting that this is in the Opinion section and not the News section. Oil company expenditures, especially as they relate to alternative energy R&D, should be front-page news, good or bad.

  • I'll bet ExxonMobile is even worse.

  • Great research. It's easy to see through Chevron's greenwashing. Consider the sentence: "Chevron has invested more than $2 billion in renewable and alternative energy services since 2002." Now, think about it: $2 billion over a 6 year period. That amounts to approximately $333 million for each of 6 years. Big deal! Chevron sold $271 billion just in 2007. Thus, $333 million is not even pocket change for this monster of a company.

  • Many thanks for this excellent article. It's too bad that "greenscamming" is not a crime. Of course, anyone who believes corporate media hype is probably incredibly gullible to begin with.

  • It's a great service to expose the shortcomings of a california company that employs thousands. Now how about a regular update on the status of local renewable/ alt energy like saphire energy, e cars, motorcycles, etc. We need some legitimate sunshine, not Chevron's empty ads.

  • I've been saying this for years. How can you trust the oil companies with developing green technology? It doesn't make any sense. If you have a monoply on cattle ranching throughout the world, are you going to promote eating red meat is bad for you and you should eat chicken instead? Of course not! There are two choices, either the govenment acts now, or we wait until things are so bad that the people force the government to act later.

  • Why didn't you get someone a little more unbiased to write an article? It would have carried more weight,Your last two lines say it all, anything they do short of shutting down and donating all their money to Greenpeace and the Sierra Club would not be enough. Their an OIL COMPANY, If YOU don't like it, change the way YOU live and use less or none of their product and they won't make as much money and drill for as much oil.

  • I don't know where "The Tyranny of Oil" come from. Oil and it's byproducts like plastic, have given us the highest standard of living on any country in the world. Man made global warming in nothing but a hoax, to inrich people like Al Gore.

    Frank D. Thurlow @ 8:46 AM PST, Nov 21, 2008

  • I can't believe anything Chevron says in those Human Energy ads.
