Pro-Clinton or anti-Obama?
Is there any truth to the old chestnut about the Latino vote and black political candidates? Discuss today's Blowback.
Comments will close after two weeks.
1.
Hillary Clinton has 8 years in the Senate, okay a little longer that Obama. Not that big a deal. I don't count being First Lady of U.S. and Arkansas as "experience." Before that she was a corporate lawyer. I would check the quality of the experience, too. Being first lady and standing by your husband, who was impeached (but never ousted from office) while he lies to a grand jury... not my idea of Presidential prep...at least not what I want in my president. Check your facts, www.votesmart.org
2. This guy says he's a young college educated hispanic voiting for Clinton. He goes on to say that Obama is nothing but a great public speaker--well, that sounds like some pretty familiar rhetoric from the Clinton and McCain campaigns. If you look with your own eyes, you can obviously see that Obama has tough skin, he's fighting against the Clinton political machine...and winning. As for experience, he has plenty, 8 years in the Illinois State Senate, four years in U.S. Senate, and if you check the facts, he has created a lot of good legislation.
3. Can somebody tell me what the Clintons have done for Mexicans/Latins. I do not recall a single thing. Please enlighten me.
4. One reason Senator Obama strikes a positive chord with voters is because he tells the truth unlike Hillary, "who will say anthing and do nothing"!! Consequently, let us stop the bull - Blacks and Hispanics in general do not get along. As for Obama having ads in spanish - this is the United States of America and the language is English!!
5. I am a young, college-educted professional Hispanic male voting for Hillary. Obama has DOES NOT have the experience or tough skin to handle Washington. He is a great public speaker but that will not cut it when the cheering crowds and excitement subsides. The reality is that our country needs some serious repairs and I cannot trust our well being to someone with little experience in Washington. There is an old Spanish saying - Más sabe el diablo por viejo... que por diablo - The old devil is wiser not because he is the devil but because he is older.
6. What is a latino and/or hispanic. I get the feeling most are referring to Mexicans. I am a well travelled man who has visited 24 countries. Quite a few of my visits have been to spanish speaking countries, however none of those people refer to themselves as latino or hispanic. In Spain it would be an insult to tell a spaniard he was a Mexican or similar. Spaniards consider Mexicans and other latin americans inferior Mexican generally do not like or repect other so called latinos. Many so called latinos are black and consider themselves black. Will somebody explain these terms
7. Im a democrat and a Latino. If Obama wins the nomination I wont vote for him but for McCAIN. DUH. So if youre are a real democrat, stop pushing Obama unto to our throats. Black or not, he hasnt done nothing for our people. If you think that thinking about my people is racist, DUH!!!. Its called democracy - government for the people.
8. No. I hear this kind of talk mainly from people like Pat Buchanan. While there probably are people who vote their race, it is not exclusive to any particular community. The MSM should look at the Latino vote as an affirmation of their support and loyalty to Clinton and not as a vote against Obama. I think some MSM journalist simply want to divide and conquer voters of color and are guilty of Undermining the political contributions that many Latinos have made to this country. It doesn't really matter, but I'm Black.
9. We lack deep knowledge of race in this country: how race disadvantaged Afro-Americans, how slavery and its legacy of moral bankruptcy affect Anglo-Americans and how Latinos benefit from the rights fought and won by Afro-Americans. Without that history, we risk exploitation by politicians and those without the community’s interest at heart and not seeing that some Latinos blindly adopt negative racial attitudes that are not condoned by us and are illegal. Even though we like to think that race problems do not exist in our culture, as Afro-Latina I know it’s not true for everyone. We can change that with education!
10. I was not aware that Latino's were anti-black voters until I heard it on cable news. Wow! I am a Latino and I am voting for Hillary, just because I feel she is more qualified. It seems to me that someone is looking to pick an argument. However, I will not let these "windbags" on the news define who I am.
