  • Insanity, silliness-wake up Marc Cooper maybe those protesting are just a little bit concerned about where their trillions of dollars are going. If you want to pay more taxes you can go right ahead, but I don't want to and I'm sick and disgusted by all the bailouts. What are they going to tax next breathing air?

  • This country has been going "socialist" for over a hundred years. People complained when social security was introduced in the 30's. The tea-partiers are the same folks who never complained when Bush spent a trillion dollars in Iraq on a pointless war. Now, see how they parade out their kids on the curb to make a political point. Those kids will be grateful when they grow up and have a decent public education and a well-paying 21st century career. All they'll remember their parents doing is being a follower of the bigmouth Limbaugh.

  • Thanks Marc for having the nerve to call it what it is. I am a former Republican who is looking around at the sheer lunacy of the people who are presently running the party and I wonder what happened. I watched in horror today at the simpletons at these tea parties with their misspelled signs and creepy attire and I was horrified. Who are these gruesome people? I guess the teabagging was about whatever that persons secret tinfoil hat god was telling them to be upset about. What a joke. And where were these future generation babblers for the last eight years? Huh? I guess the tinfoil hat god only comes out for the black man.

  • As a self-employed business man I get doubled up on my FICA taxes and pay 45 cents of every dollar I make to the federal government. That does not include state tax, property tax and the many "fees' for just about everything. After all is said and done, I work frm January to July before I am earning my money. You are out of touch if you think that is not worth protesting.

  • What an idiot. Marc probably has a job lined up at CNN with this kind of reporting. If it was just about the lower federal revenues, and relative lower taxes, nobody would be complaining. The tea parties are about the out of control government spending and deficits that will eventually have to be paid for. If this opinion was coming from someone in the Economics department at USC, I might take it seriously. But it's coming from a hack in the communications department. As a USC alumn, I am embarrassed. Also I can't believe this opinion made it onto the LA Times. Aren't there any standards in what gets printed?

  • Mark Cooper and liberal-biased Hell-A Slimes can go kick rocks.

  • It seems to me today that media writes the things they do against us tax protestors since they are looking for a bail out themselves!

  • Your children, and mine, their future was already spent during G.W.'s reign. Wake up! Too little, way too late. Methinks you doth protest too much. Marc Cooper is an intelligent, sincere, generous and loving family man. I know first hand. He is in as much trouble as the rest of us. And an Op-Ed piece is biased! That's why it's in Op-Ed!

  • Many of those opposed to Obama's massive spending increases are the same people who opposed Bush's similarly reckless expansion of goverment. But Obama-ites just snicker about retaliating against the GOP. It is a moral outrage that our two party system leads to such childish tactics. What about the rest of us TRUE conservatives who opposed Bush as intensely as we oppose Obama? Who represents our interests?
