  • Hmm I wonder what percentage of extremists post their comments on the internet? 90%?

  • Libraries are full of political liberals. Some may even sound reasonable, but it is mostly the result of smooth talking and avoiding the thorny issues which gives a casual passer-by the impression that some agreement actually existed (i.e. "moderate"). Most often, there is little common ground when dealing with these folks. Many of them are extremists. Liberals possess a subliminal resentment of society and the most traditional views of its citizens. By the way, liberals (Barack Obama) regard Americans as "citizens of the world" as much or more than as citizens of a sovereign America. Think about it .

  • Liberals Harbor a Resentment Towards Society and Life. Anybody who makes even casual observations in public places and reads knows this article is typical media denial. In fact, there IS an ongoing cultural war in America, and as economist and commentator Dr. Thomas Sowell has written before, "a cultural war is being waged and all that is missing in this war are the bullets". Many liberals in the Pacific States (a.k.a. "Left Coast ") are quite passionate about their political beliefs and values. The ones that talk take it very seriously. Take it from me, these folks are anything but from the "middle of the road".

  • Why anyone poor/middlec class would vote Democrat is beyond stupidity! THey are raising your taxes, and you'll get nothing in return, nothing! They don't want to drill...They keep adding fees or new taxes....Bigger govt. means less rights....Do you dummies get it?

  • Forget the culture war which is only a make-believe war. We have a real war going on that has military-style raids into people's homes by SWAT teams, the killing of innocents, and the vast gulag of American prisons: the war on drugs. The insane, puritanical war on drugs has propelled the U.S. to become the world's No. 1 incarcerator with over 2 miliion(!) Americans in jails and prisons. Now that's a real war, and one that the government wages on our own citizens. The so-called culture war is only a bunch of bla-bla-bla compared to the viciousness of the war on drugs.

  • When the Supreme Court ruled that corporations have the same rights as individual Americans, we knew we were lost. Now, we have corporate religion, corporate war and corporate politicians. Yet no corporate peace simply because there is no profit in it. Your column breezily suggests that we lucky Americans of today have no stark issues that require a citizenry response. Our illegal and immoral invasion of Iraq, evidently, is insufficient cause to bring our government to its knees and demand that our soldiers are brought home. I must disagree.

  • Dick Meyer is wrong. There is a strong division in America. There are those who hate the war in Iraq, hate President Bush, hate Republicans and hate all war or confrontation. Then there are those who are more thoughtful and take a broader rational view on the U.S. and how world events play out over hundreds of years. Most of those gathered in Denver this week are going on that emotion of hate. It remains to be seen whether our next president will be elected based on hate or a rational thoughtful approach to the world. I live in the Pacific Northwest where this hate is predominant.

  • The self-appointed leaders of the most extreme factions, left and right, are seduced by the screams of their few but full-throated supporters into thinking they command the attention of most Americans. The press reports on this noise, not out of respect, but because headlines about freak shows sell papers and increase ratings. The average citizen is too concerned with his daily struggle to keep up with the treadmill of life to really care.

  • Dick Meyer, still an agent of the DNC oblivious to the radical secularists and their attempts to impose abortion, homosexuality, transexuallity, etc on the rest of us. You utter hack Mr. Meyer. Utter liberal buffoon.
