  • All the African countries would be better off if more Europeans were in charge of their countries. They have never developed since they gained their freedom and it's time to let the people who know how to run a country do so.

  • Did/do the rape victims go to the hospital and have their names registered and their cases documented?

  • The notion that rape and death toll numbers in Darfur are the product of manipulated testimonials from Darfuri rebels is heinous. These numbers come from third party relief workers and are well documented. The peace agreement "suggested" by Bashir comes at a really opportune time for him, seeing as how the spotlight of the ICC is glaring at him and his party. Peace agreement or no, Bashir must be held accountable for the unspeakable crimes he committed.

  • "They kill our males and dilute our blood with rape. [They] ... want to finish us as a people, end our history." I've been writing about this form of genocide for years. In fact, there are many "leaders" who are trying to do the same thing to white people all over the planet--to dilute our blood...to finish us as a people, end our history. Of course, when a White writes such things, he or she is called a racist. So, maybe the people of Darfur should just accept the wonderful diversity as whites are expected to accept it? Hmmmm?

  • All I can say is "Wow" to the sick Mr. Ibrahim Adam in comment three. "Sure, some rapes have happened...?" What in God's name is wrong with you? Perhaps you need to be put in the same shoes as some of these women and young girls who have been raped by 10+ men and then we'll see if your words are as inpersonal as "Sure, some rapes have happened..." You're absolutely right, the U.S. has made a large mistake in its road through Iraq, but it certainly doesn't carrie the gravity of genocide and rape on a mass scale. I think you would be wise and a little more seemingly compassionate if you didn't attempt to discredit such an atrocity.

  • Why should the American People or even the American Government care what happens in Darfur?? The American Government didn't care about Darfur while Bill Clinton was incharged. Anyway, Darfur is more of an internal affair. If anything Where's the rest of Africa at?? Yet, the left wing of this country wants to send troops into Darfur to do what? Where's code pink at?? Where's all of these "human rights groups" at?? Thought so. Tell the truth, nobody cares who dies in Darfur or any place else without any movie star behind them. It's sad. Darrell :)

  • If this is true, then there will be thousands of people who are witnesses to this outcome. I think that automatically suppressing those voices in the interest of "peace" is a tragic mistake. It's insidious and evil to allow women and their culture to be used as an instrument of genocide. We have learned that Muslim cultures are be likely to destroy their "dishonored" women in the same way. To target that is unconscionable.

  • David Scheffer's Opinion piece in today's paper (Nov 13) was heart breaking. Rape is a dreadful crime with untold long-term consequences. But of the consequences, the saddest to me is that the women typically were ostracized from their own communities. It isn't enough that they had suffered from the enemy men; they then had to suffer from their own communities. It's an old story and one that continues to hurt.

  • i appreciate your concern of this poor people and destroyed region of Darfur " but now in Sudan WE have now on going peace agreement suggested by Bashir himself and sudanese parties so please lets see the result of it first and then we can check the other options . thank you

  • Same old hugely misinformed US activist claptrap about Darfur from arm-chair US academics who know jot about the area or Sudan generally. These claims (rapes, death numbers) are just politically manipulated testimonies from Darfuri rebel groups given to the ICC prosecutor. Yes some rapes have happened, which is terrible anywhere, but nothing on the scale or systematic nature as claimed by Prof. Scheffer. Show me the numbers??? Moral certainty without knowing the actual facts has already led the US down the wrong route: it's called WMD Avenue, zip code Baghdad '03.
