This is by far one of the worst opinion columns I have read recently. Goldberg has switched from mocking Obama for acting prematurely presidential to mocking him for not immediately responding presidentially to a crisis; additionally, as of when this column was published, President Bush (the actual current president, that Goldberg supports) had not yet made any strong statements on the matter despite sitting next to Vladimir Putin in Beijing as the war erupted. Combine this with needless pop culture references (Letterman's Top 10) and factual inaccuracies (the B-T-C pipeline was not bombed) and all you have is a third-rate blog entry.

why the LA times, the once great paper includes such tripe thinking from a sub B-list blogger is a mystery

Finally its nice to read an article from someone who truly understands the enormous problem we will face with Obama as President.
A person who never ran a company, a State or had a piece of Legislation pass is not ready to speak and negotiate with tyrannical despots.. How America can think that this pompous, egocentric man can run a country before he proves he can run anything is beyond me.
Your blog hit it right on. Don't be fooled by his charisma and charm, he is a charlatan who will weaken this country economically and militarily. Listen to what Mr Goldberg says. He has it right.

For Q2 2008, This is what I found. Exxon-Mobil had a pre-tax income of $22.2 Billion. They paid $10.5 Billion in taxes on the pre-tax income - for after tax profits of 11.7 Billion. Yes, $11.7 Billion is a lot of money. So, I dug in further. What about sales based taxes ? They paid $9.5 Billion [in addition to the $10.5 Billion on income]. What about excise taxes - they paid $12.3 Billion in excise taxes. In total, the $11.68 Billion was 8.5% of their revenues of $138 Billion for the quarter. Nice numbers, but let's see - the tax man got $10.5+12.3+9.5 = $32.3 Billion.

I don't know why liberals continue to believe that Obama is the second coming of JFK.

I agree with Michael.
Jonah Goldberg sound more (PATHETIC) each time he write about Senator Obama. He is obsessed with Senator Obma.
Lou @ 7:15 AM PDT, Aug 14, 2008
After eight years of a catastropic neoconservative foreign policy, Jonah Goldberg disqualifies Obama because he doesn't endorse the reckless use of military force in Georgia advocated by McCain's neoconservative brain trust.
It is bad enough that Goldberg and his ilk continue their dishonest campaign to convince Americans that the $3 trillion Iraqi War has been a success when it has merely served to make Iran the strongest power in the Middle East after Israel. Goldberg's new push for war is unconcionable.

'Mind-bottling'. Factual inaccuracies, extreme bias, and .... oh its Jonah Goldberg. Never mind. Now its just typical. You forgot to tell the part where the Georgian President called McCain out by name, saying that his rhetoric (NOT BUSH'S) over the last few years means nothing without action. Anyone interested in knowing how the Georgian President knew about McCain need only ask his former campaign chairman and paid (BY GEORGIA) lobbyist that helped funnel money from the Georgian government to McCain's political coffers. Of course his a "long time alley," their government pays him to be. Probably should have kept the receipt.
