  • To El Grito- "Her intra-party politics-stab as many people in the back to get to the top." That's dillusional leftist ideology touted by liberals. It's not called backstabbing when you blow a whistle, it's called accountability and having moral values that are placed above your own ambition to get to the top. Palin got to where she is today by portraying such values, something your liberal egos couldn't handle so let's have the ACLU take away those too!

  • LOL...new life? Death rattle is more like it. The GOP should have reinvested itself in its mission: small government, personal privacy, integrity, self-determination...the Russell Kirk message. Elitism by Merit. Instead they bet the house on a mediocre special effect with one qualification only: she wants to rescind Roe. What's she good for? One thing only: she'll do what she's told if she ever gets a chance to name nominations for the Supreme Court. "One of the most brilliant political plays in American history." Uh huh. And the Alamo looked great on Davy Crockett's resume.

  • Sorry,, I don't think you've "rebranded" yourselves as being either accepting due to her circumstances or sincere. If I were Palin, I'd be very upset. I'd not be releasing fake reports saying "I'm thrilled." Instead, I'd be introspective: what went wrong with my parenting skills to have a 17 year old pregnant daughter?" If anything, you Republicans are hypocrites. Had Obama had a 17 year old unmarried, unemployed pregnant daughter, you'd be saying, "Bad Parent."

  • McCain has made a brilliant move. The Democrats repeat the mantra of "Change," but based on their past history, who really are more credible agents of change? Let's count the number of times that Obama and Biden have bucked their party's agenda. We already know that McCain and Palin will do that. Let's get beyond a vague and meaningless call for change and talk about specific changes. For instance, how about changing the system so that poor families have the same opportunities to select their children's schools that wealthy families do? Will Democrats, beholden to teachers' unions, do right by poor people instead of just teachers?

  • Breath of fresh air? Her solution to oil addiction-drill more. Her environmental logic-the polar bear population is not in decline. Her stance on abortion-pro life. Her intra-party politics-stab as many people in the back to get to the top. And let's not get into her handling of teen pregnancy. And I am sorry nothing is off limits in a Presidential race. If you can't teach your kids how to be responsible then maybe you need to spend more time with them. It is easy for her to say, her daughter will have her baby, she has wealthy parents who can afford care. Many in that situation do not.

  • Jonah Goldbergh is one of the main reasons I will never again subscribe to the LA Times. Without fail, he always contorts logic to benefit republicans, bastardizes proper argumentation to harm liberals. In this tripe, he attempts to justify McCain's hypocrisy of framing Obama as a novice, then picking one for his ticket. Goldberg's reasoning? That the experience argument wasn't going to "get him over the hump." This is an implicit admission that McCain is willing to say or do anything to win, not a man who sticks to his priciples. Goldberg, you are a disgrace to rational thinkers from all points of the politiclal spectrum.

  • I've never read an article of any kind from the L.A. Times before today. That is mainly because I don't think there's anything in the L.A. Times that I'd like to read. I am, after all, a conservative. It's laughable to me that papers such as the L.A. Times and those of it's ilk hire conservative writers to write op-ed pieces for them. Perhaps those at the paper wish to claim a balanced viewpoint. However, as borne out by previous comments, your readership does not appreciate conservatives or conservatism. Mr. Goldberg, I would suggest that your time could be better spent. Have you thought about going fishing?

  • Ever true to the conservative handbook, McCain has chosen an incompetent to a crucial role in his not so future administration. Look at the choices the failure Bush made during his presidency. Harriet Myers for the Supreme Court, Alberto Gonzalez for Attorney General, Porter Goss for CIA director (although Porter was man enough to mention that he himself was not qualified for any job at CIA much less director.) And who can forget ("You're doing a helluva job Brownie")? The conservatives want incompetents in government to push their government is broken and it needs to be privatized drivel.

  • To quote Shakespeare, the Dems "dost protest too much." Their recent attacks prove they are worried about this unique candidate...someone who is not part of the conventional political partisan posturing program. It's obvious they are attempting to take the focus off of McCain and the issues he represents. But don't be fooled...wait until she speaks Wednesday night...Sarah Palin is the "breath of fresh air" so needed in today's American politics!

  • Maybe you should spend a little less time at pre-convention activities (ie. drinking) and more doing doing your research.
