I agree with supplying Stingers and Javelins. However, had Georgia been admitted to NATO, I'm confident the Western Europeans in particular would have balked and shown NATO to be as hollow as Russia knows it is. Now, were the US not in Iraq and Afghanistan, things might be different.
If the former Warsaw Pact nations and the Central Asia oil producers who'll be further squeezed by Russia when it grabs the Georgian pipeline to unite to attack Russia, that would be different. But Russia has nuclear weapons and probably not much reluctance about using them in its "near abroad," especially Central Asia.

Well it was a matter of time before the bear get more dumb, now that we are at the door of world war III some one need to tell them that they are with us or against freedom.

"So try, but don't cry when we'll sell s -300 and rpg - 29 to Iran. P.S.: saaka - is a new hitler"
Too late, Russians have been selling those and other weapons to every thug and dictator the world over for years simply for the reason that they have the money and oppose the west in general. Russia is a basket case with a rediculousl economy based on some oil and selling weapons to everyone. Russia is the white trash crack whore of the world -- are you proud?

Thomas, you make such a compelling argument what with your personal attacks and calling me a "Russian." LOL. Though we can all argue the merits of the Afghan and Iraqi war until we are blue in the face (and my position of it would surprise you), my point was that our government cannot pick and choose which "incursions" are justified or not based on our own interests. We could and should have used our influence to prevent this genocide (on both sides) from happening. Instead, we give lip service (and like you resort to personal attacks and name calling) rather than coming up with an effective solution.

Statement A: it is wrong for Russia to support South Ossetia to separate from Georgia, because Georgia is a soverign democratic country.
Statement B: it is wrong for the USA to support Kosovo to separate from Serbia, because Serbia is a soverign democratic country.
Who cares about right or wrong? The point is the pipeline. That's all.

Russia has been trying to provoke a military response from Georgia for years and last Friday they finally succeeded. We need to send military equipment to Georgia so they can at least fight on an even base. Shame on the Russian Federation.

Not that I accept for a minute that this is any kind of self defence but let's assume, for a moment, that it is what the Russian apologists are saying it is. So where are the "disproportionate force" people when we need them? Or does that only count when those dirty "joos" are the one's defending themselves?
Thomas @ 12:57 PM PDT, Aug 13, 2008
This is onesided at best but more like propaganda. Consider looking into this complicated issue yourself.

Defeat the West? You have to be kidding. The West was defeated years ago. What we're witnessing today is its dismantling.

Why western media is silent that Georgian artillery stormed Tshinvali(capital of Ossetia) at 1AM local time and shot civil buildings when people were asleep? Why no one says that Russian troops came almost 16 hours later? Why no one points that under Georgian attacks died 8% of all population? To compare if it would happen in New York this number would be 1,600,000? What is it as not genocide when 8% of all country is wiped off the face of Earth during two days?
