  • Mr. Rutten, If the satire had been effective, then ha! ha! However, the cover did not work. [Hint: it had to be explained to a sympathetic audience.] All the artist had to do was add the title "The Politics of Fear" and voila! Satire.

  • It's only funny if it hurts a conservative. Liberals have no sense of humor about themselves. I am beginning to believe liberalism is a mental sickness. We need to pity the poor folks with bds. Obama is way too sissified to be president. Bet he can dish it out tho...

  • I thought it was funny. I thought the NYer's spring cartoon of Hillary and Barack in bed together as the phone rang at 3 am funny. We're in a sorry state in this country if we can't laugh at our politicians, at ourselves — and especially if we take the presidency and candidates so seriously they become imperial, Cheneyesque. It’s interesting that despite the rather racist comments on this board, most of the huffing-and-puffing-in-horror media reps. are white. We need more cartoons, not fewer; fascism results when no opinion by the PC one, whatever PC at the time, is acceptable. I shall renew enthusiastically my NYer subscription.

  • Mr Rutten, to make sure everyone sees the joke next time, why not have a good belly laugh in your column on every occasion the right wing nuts slur Obama. You know the game, a quick sound bite trumps the facts every time.

  • How many caricatures has any president endured once they got into office? Obama's reaction has only hurt his credibility as a real leader by directing attention to his immaturity and his egocentrism.

  • If Obama wants to be president he better get used to criticism. Its an American tradition as is the right to free speech.

  • The first post here by Jaime Aguila pretty much says it all about the quality of this forum. You can't make this stuff up.

  • Why is always the White folk, especially white males, telling people of color how to feel and think? Fine it's a joke, but that does not mean we have to like it. And today when we make fun of white folk we quickly get slapped with claims of reverse discrimination. I don't hear anyone hear defending Bernie Mac's comments as they were just a joke.

  • Finally we can see the real racists who have been hiding saying they are not. It is screaming out of their bodies each time they take popshots at anyone of color. They magazine just proved it by backing such hatred & thinking it humorous. I will indeed back Obama now , with people like that trading off an ounce of racist so-called humor to sell their character & discriminating magazine. I'll never buy it or read it again since I know what type of reading material they approve. Good Riddance. 4:47pm

  • It's obvious that the cover art was attempted satire, but that does not make it effective or appropriate. Just because it's a joke doesn't make funny. There are plenty of reasons this is in bad taste. Just like Nazi and Hitler comparisons for the sake of satire are inapropriate, so should be terrorist comparisons.
