California Supreme Court ruling on gay marriage

1. Marriage serves a purpose, and that purpose defines the limits of marriage. There certainly are other purposes to marriage, but they pale by comparison to the role marriage plays in attempting to assure that children come to know and depend upon their biological parents (in so far as that is possible anymore) for protection, nourishment and socialization. Yes, heterosexuals are first of all to blame for the state of marriage, but homosexuals have it would appear, in their quest for social and moral validation are bound and determined to finish marriage off.

2. i think that anyone who thinks marriage is only right if it's between a man and woman is ignorant! i am straight, but i honestly could care less whether or not someone is gay. being gay or bi is not a problem, it is simply a preference like a favorite food or color. i am so glad that gays are allowed to get married. also, this is not a religious issue. there is a wall of separation between church and state for a reason. we need to see beyond borders that keep everyone apart. YEAH GAY MARRIAGE!

3. The problem is, we are trying to force everybody into one mold. The government is no longer 'OUR" government, a parochial state representing us as a people and culture, but everybodies , a imperial universal government in a sense , governing diverse cultures languages and religions and philosophies all of equal value and weight. Maybe the Jews, the Hopi, the Black Muslims, the Amish and many other seperate but equal communities living within the US should be the example and model for the rest of us.

4. This country was founded on separation of church and state. That means our laws are not supposed to be based on religion. You have the right to worship your anti-gay god and I have a right to equality.

5. If all laws were left up to the "will of the people" there'd still be slavery in the south, Christianity would be the national religion, and (sorry to break the "Hitler rule") but Germany would have no jews. There are checks and balances to oppose the stupidity of the masses. The ban on gay marriage qualifies as such.

8. I have Gay friends, they are no different than I, they are living human beings as we all are! !Who are we to deny them the same loving relationship we have with our heterosexual spouse/partner?? This is the USA where everyone should be treated equally regardless of their gender, nationality or religious beliefs!! I am straight, a Catholic and I applaud the decision made by the Supreme Court as well as the decision by our Govenor who is supporting the decision made by the Judges!! Let's get over the Bigotry people!!

9. Please name any place in the United States where any church exerts control over marriage. Marriage licenses are issued by county governments; judges have the power to perform marriage ceremonies. Therefore, couples have the ability to legally marry without ANY contact with a church or religious organization. Interracial marriages were once illegal; it required judges to see past the bigotry of the masses and rule to end the discrimination. Churches may opt out of performing gay ceremonies on religious grounds but no church has the right to interfere in civil matters. Our founding fathers made that very clear.

10. I have read and respect all of your opinions on this issue. However, this is not a religious issue. The issue here is that the people of the State of California voted FOR Proposition 22, in 2000, which said that only marriage between a man and a woman was legal. Now, the California State Supreme Court comes down with a ruling that says same sex persons can marry. Only the People have the right to change the laws, through the voting initiative process. The State Supreme Court is usurping the will of the people of this state, because WITHOUT the approval of the people of California, they have ignored the voter initiative process.
