Hillary Clinton and the white working-class vote
1.
Saw a link to this article at www.polijam.com It is assumed here that all educated people are liberals, and others are bigots. There are many educated people who are conservative. Unfortunately, the biggest bigots are the liberals who think poorly of anyone who is not a liberal.
2. Speaking for myself, a white, working-class, 51 year-old male. White working people in Kentucky and West Virginia won't vote for a black person? Those people just started walking upright. From now on, please don't include me when you make your observations! I'm voting for Obama!
3. I don't buy this article.
4. People diss poor whites because they're often bigots & racists. On p. 6 of todays's Trib-whites in Munfordville KY won't vote for a black man, period. They often dislike anyone not like them and they get disliked back.
5. It should really be called "Stuff White Liberal People Like."
6. Oh, so very true. Just look at Mr. Harvard Snobbing around the campaign trail. Not that Hillary or McCain are any less elitist at their core, it's just that Osnoba wears it like an Ivy-league badgeof "honor"... Well written article.
7. This sounds like an enormous generalization by both an author and a blogger who have drunk too much chardonnay and eaten too much endive, debating the nuances of political correctness. Guess what? You're out of touch.
8. Those who recognized things were changing already left their West Virginia 'ancestral home' for education and jobs elsewhere. Those that are left still hope and expect 'someone' can bring back 'the good old days' of well-paying factory jobs. They refuse to hear otherwise. It's sad.
9. What is the point here? White people feel their edge slipping, one they do not believe they have, and it is Mr. Obama's fault. First and second-generation college educated whites diss their own families. What is Off-White, a new Census track? This article only lowers the bar for white people.
10. White warfare, give me a break. Are we supposed to believe whites are so ashamed of their family, and other whites, they want to disassocate with them - who says racism is not alive and well in 2008. Looks like it will live-on for generations, thanks whites.
