McCain’s mysterious war policy

Discuss Rosa Brooks' column.

Comments will close after two days.

1. I look forward to Rosa Brooks' equally balanced and fair analysis of the positions of Hillary Clinton and Barak Obama on Iraq.

2. We are electing a president, not a prophet. Yes, in hindsight, we can see that Sen. McCain has made mistakes. But he's also been proven right on key issues, such as the need for more troops than Rumsfeld wanted to commit. I think McCain would have done a much better job managing this war than Bush. He also has the right instincts as to dealing with Iran and Syria. Playing "Mr. Nice Guy" with morally bankrupt regimes is going to accomplish nothing.

3. I find it interesting that nearly a decade after 911 people still refute facts still refuse reality: we the people were raped by the current admin. But no one suffers more than the iraqi. They're not just dying; they’ve lost everything. let that wash over whoever you are. what this admin has done is inexplicable only from an ethical stance. This war is fraud. I beg cynics to take action b4 stinging the next person with their nose. Go find facts! For love of god, inform yourself; there are plenty people and paper trails to deliver you reality. For proud delusional Bushists it will devastate but unlike lies, the truth is invaluable, liberating.

4. McCain and Bush seem to share the same mindset when it comes to free trade, taxes, illegal immigration, Iraq, and Iran. If the voters want to continue Bush’s strategies, policies, and direction, then vote for McCain. Be warned, conflict with Iran will make Al Qaeda look like Cub Scouts. Iran’s oil money could deceptively finance a worldwide jihad against this country. With our open borders, terrorists can easily enter this country and wreck havoc. Savama agents are already here. To stop the terrorism, we would have to invade and occupy Iran. With insufficient forces, we could be eventually driven out of Iraq, Iran, and Afghanistan.

5. More people trust John McCain to manage the war because most people realize that it is too late to pull all the troops out and let Iraq wither. Like it or not we are there and we have to gut it out until the Iraqis are ready to run things without us. Americans are not always right, but we are almost never quiters. But no matter what anybody says, and who gets elected, we are going to be in Iraq for some time, hell, we're still in Germany and that war has been over for 60 years. Obama or Hillary may promise to pull the troops, but we all know that is not going to happen.

6. I greatly appreciate Brooks' setting the record straight. Invading Iraq after 911 made as much sense as invading Brazil after Pearl Harbor. If the real world military, both Bush and McCain would have been court-martialed for military incompetence. As president, McCain will endanger and weaken this country. He does not deserve to win.

7. I believe that the insurgency in Iraq is due to a bunch of people pissed off by us occupying their country. I am not siding with the enemy, but put the shoe on the other foot. We would do the same thing if we had people in our country telling us that we cant leave our house after a certain time, or killing our children, telling us that we cant drive on our own streets. I firmly believe that Al Qaeda is a scapegoat to keep this "War on Terrorism" going. Coincidentally every time that something happens, no matter where it happens, its always Al Qaeda in some form, which in my opinion I think its a bunch of BS.

8. The rightwingers are sheep. Obama took heat for saying it, but he was right: They just care about religion, guns and gay marriage. They will rationalize anything else including the mess in Iraq. We on the left love America and are trying to make it whole again. The Limbaughs, Coulters and Bushes are trying to tear America apart.

9. America will not be in safer hands with Mc cain's securiy. He wants to get what he wants and will not do what he needs to. AMerica, pray and ask God to choose a good and God fearing leader if not we should expect somethimg more than September 11.

10. If Mc cain is a war hero as Higher mighty Rosa Brooks claims, how many lives has he saved so far? Why should it take so long as 5years to stop war in Iraq when Mc cain John will be 77yrs? Mc cain policy and the one of John Bush there is no different. American should expect more war in Iraq if Mc cain is elected as the president because he believes Bush's administration has done nothing wrong as far as Iraq war is concern.
