  • Turks and Armenians lived in peace for 800 years or even more, in the Ottoman state armenians were called "millet-i sadki", i.e. loyal nation. Only in the beginning of 20th century the relations worsened mostly due to provocations done by big powers attacking Ottoman state at that time - russians, brits, french... Hopefully present day armenians will come to peace with turks by realizing that they were greatly manipulated by those powers during WW1.

  • Mr. Pope's organization constantly supported settlements based on Armenian capitulation to Turkish demands. The piece supports of the relegation of genocide recognition to academe, demonizes Armenian-Americans particularly Los Angeles Armenians, and equates minor incidents with the wholesale slaughter of a nation. Normalization and Reconciliation will not take place at all costs, and certainly not on the basis of one-sided Armenian capitulation. I welcome Gul's trip to Armenia as the first step in a long process of eventual reconciliation, but the outcome of that process will not be purchased by Armenians at all costs.

  • Armenians and Armenian Diaspora shall never forget that two open borders, one of which is Iran, are vulnerable to disruptions and eventual closure as well. Azerbaijanis comprise almost half of the Iranian population and they are set to become independent sooner or later. As soon as they become independent they will close the border with Armenia as long as Armenia keeps its invasion of Azerbaijani land. So time has come for Armenians to think about the future keeping in mind those builders of the past (Armenian fundamentalist Diaspora in US and France) can't be builders of the future.

  • The idea that there should be a group of historians is stupid. During the Genocide, the Turks killed 1.5 million Armenians, but also destroyed numerous Armenian artifacts, churches, and DOCUMENTS. All we have are the stories of our ancestors and the photos and the eyewitness account of Armin T. Wegner.

  • It is deceptive and offensive that Hugh Pope diminishes a crime against humanity by referring to genocide as “dispute” and equates the worst crime humanity has given a name to with that of Turkish claims. It is the International Association of Genocide Scholars that unanimously affirmed the Armenian genocide. Raphael Lemkin, a lawyer of Polish-Jewish descent coined the word genocide to properly characterize the barbarity that befell the Armenians. Forgiving Turks who have not repented is hollow and meaningless. Turkey should face the 1948 UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.

  • That's right less focus on the diplomats instead of the planned annihilation of a race of people - distractions can be so effective...

  • Turkey today spends Millions on Genocide denial cluding giving the disgraced Bob Livingston and ex congressman Solarz, $700,000.00 each yearly to peddle Armenian genocide Denial. Those days are slowly coming to an end and Turkey knows it.

  • When does the garbage rag of paper that calls itself the LA Times ever write an article that cleary points to it's official policy of recognizing the facts of the Armenian Genocide?????????

  • Lets be clear: ALL GENOCIDE HISTORIANS agree it was genocide. Our own U.S archives are filled with pages depicting the "systematic extermination of the Armenian race". It has been studied pretty extensivley. Only the turks and a hanfull of "paid historians" claim otherwise. As an ultimate opportunist, Turkey is trying to seem human yet it is only trying to avoid as much responsability for the Armenian Genocide as possible. True reconciliation only comes from acknowledgment, apology and compensensation for the massive damage caused to the Armenian people and nation. Not from a football game.
