  • If it is offensive, why do it?

  • Chip Saltsman gets what he deserves,,, it's so totally relevant and revealing that he does not even know that at the least, his parody is in total bad taste, and at the worst, that he is racist and does not even understand why or how.... I grew up in North Carolina and I can tell you that there are a lot of Chip Saltsman that live in such an insolar and lilly white world or country clubs, frat houses, hunting clubs and inbred society that they think have no clue as to how ethnically and culturally diverse the country is today,,, but worst, is that they don't care nor want to know ,,,,,

  • A great column. Your point about humor and context--that race and ethnic humor don't fly in politics--says it all. And you saved the best for last. Loved that kicker....

  • I believe the phrase was first used in the LA Times

  • I hope the Republicans run a Palin/Tancredo ticket in 2012. Sarah can sing the magic song and Tancredo can riff on the "Star Spanglish Banner", further consolidating Republican support among that all important voter base, the rightwing nutjobs. :-> For Pete's sake, when even Newt Gingrich gets it, you might think other Republicans would catch on. Sarah/Tom 2012!!!

  • The song merely borrowed the term from the editorial. Little of the editorial's content made its way into the lyrics. Besides, plenty of moderates voted for Obama because we're tired of a GOP that has given itself over to anti-intellectual populists.

  • I agree, Rutten could not have actually listened to the song. It does not in any way parody Barak or blacks - it parodies liberals dismissal of blacks such as Condoleeza Rice or Colin Powell or Bill Cosby or Morgan Freeman or Oprah Winfrey as "magic negros" who's achievements do not count as evidence of racial progress because they are too "acceptable" to whites.

  • you are stupid

  • “Everything is racism to them, except when a black person says or does something offensive to a white person, they then gleefully claim it is 'free speech' or within their 'rights'.” Do you complain when the Klan or other racist groups exercises their freedom of speech with their hate propaganda? If not then don’t complain when Blacks exercise the same freedom. Freedom of speech is for both the racist and non racist alike. We may not like what they say and it may get them in trouble but it is their right to say it even if we disagree with it.
