Thank you! It seems Americans' knowledge of history is limited to who won the last season of "American Idol". Whoever crys "double standard!" needs to retake 8th grade US history.

As a British subject, I have absolutely no part to play in the current American elections but still feel very sad that so-called liberals, such as Obama and Biden, believe in and resort to crude imagery. Satire is one thing but that Hollywood couple's sense of humour is extremely vile. On the other hand, I fail to see that calling Obama a socialist is either untrue or inflammatory. Any politician who promises to spread other people's wealth around is a socialist: that's what socialists always do, - rob folk just to give the loot to wastrels

Black people aren't the ONLY people that have had hate crimes against them, or slavery. What about the Jews, Italians, many Asian people,The Irish? Hate crimes are happening everyday. A crime against a child is considered child abuse, but its truly a hate crime, is it not? It is a hate crime. It is no more symbolic if I went and say, hung your mother or father in a tree, or how about an effigy of yourself? Just because of someone having darker skin, gives them a free pass. Just because of someones skin, does not mean that it isn't a hate crime.

By making 'hate' crimes you perpetuate the ideologies of race and only further separate people based upon race. All crimes are offensive, and just because race is involved, does not make a crime any worse. Palin, Obama, whoever it is hung up shouldnt matter. Though i can understand the horrifying symbolism of the noose.

first off, whites were hung plenty too so I don't think blacks have some special relationship with the noose. I don't see why either should be allowed though. Seems like a barely veiled death threat to me.

Freedom of speech is for both black and white. Because you are enraged, upset, or hurt feelings does not constitute a hate crime. Get use to it this is just the beginning. Speech, guns, homes, jobs, education, and genocide. Idiots are enforcing laws that do not exist. Freedom is not free you must constantly fight for it. The sheep are going to give it all away. Wake up smell Obama or BO.

More black men have been killed by black men in the last 20 years then all the blacks ever hung by whites. Where the hell is the outrage against blacks from blacks? Where the hell are the black leaders trying to stop this? Ahh, that's right, there's no political advantage for that crime. Get over it, especially if Obama wins. Step up and stop playing the victem card. Racism is political big business and it will never go away as long as blacks keep it alive. There will ALWAYS be pockets of racism, learn to live with it just like we do.

It is not the same. If whites had endured thousands of years of persecution, hung in trees, and enslaved, then yes, it would be the same. However, it is not. Get off your high horse folks and realize that THIS is hateful, but not a hate crime. It is FAR more symbolic to hang a black man from a tree than a white woman.

...it's a shame, obama has darker skin so he is given a free pass & is not held to the same scrutiny as others. Redistribute the wealth...this is America, get off your a@@ and make your self a sucess, hanging someone in effigy...grow up and be responsible for your actions...wake up people!!
