  • This isn't difficult. State Parks aren't holding grounds for Toll Roads. Period.

  • Assuming, for the moment, that people actually do use the foothill-south toll road, which I doubt significant numbers will, I fail to see how adding an interchange just south of San Clemente will improve traffic to any significant degree. There is always traffic at interchanges, and this will just back traffic up through San Clemente, just as it does now.

  • Amen & hear, hear!! LAT is right! How will the 241 cure any I-5 blockage that occurrs south of San Clemente? Which might well back up into San Clemente?

  • Once the territory of California is denuded, destroyed, ruined, and made into yet another ribbo of concrete at huge dollar cost the very nature of California is lost, forever. Nobody "needs" such a road; there are several who "want" it, however, and since they have always gotten their way they think that somehow their personal preference trumps the common good. No to any more destruction !

  • Build the Road and shut up up! This plan was give the gohead long ago. It will serve its purpose and it will be built. Those who fight it are not those who have to deal with the drive day in and day out as is typical with most environmental protests!

  • 3.) Camp Pendleton could benefit from have an alt. northbound route. 4.) Widening the freeway...go for it. But it still doesn't help when there are accidents, congestion, etc. 5.) FINISH the road. Why have a road that suddenly stops? Connect it to the 5 for crying out loud. Not many people use the 241 currently because its not an alternative to the 5 as is. 6.) The state is not paying for this road. Its privately funded

  • As someone who lives in the 'nowhere' that the 241 extension would serve, I beg to differ on your conclusion on many points. 1.) The toll road is not for residents of San Clemente, but for all people who want to avoid congestion on the 5 2.) When a crash on the 5 closes lanes on the freeway, wouldn't it be nice to have an alternative route? If you're worried about global warming...idling in traffic is a major contributor!

  • Smartest, wisest editorial I've read! Thank you!

  • It seems pretty simple and fairly logical that the absolute last place a private/toll road should be built is through a State Park. From there things get even more straightforward... the particulars on this toll road through a State Park project failed literally every single section of the California Coastal Act.
