  • Black voters put it over the top? What, 6-8% of the population? How about white, non-Mormon Christians put it over the top. Aren't they the majority? White people put it on the ballot and too many white people supported it. That's another way to look at it. Or maybe old people did it! I mean, they did vote overwhelmingly in support.

  • I can't understand why some gay people want to give up their privileged status. They can't be ensnared in marriage and don't have to be cannon fodder in imperialist wars. They are thought to be above average in intelligence and looks. Why do they want to become 'common'. Reading th comments about why Prop. 8 failed misses that fact that most 'straight' people consider gays their betters and subconsciously want to protest them from harm.

  • Justin asked: Right before the elections I noticed that there were always a lot of Yes on Prop 8 foks in my neighborhood rallying for Prop 8, and they were always either tongans or samoans. Those were Mormon missionaries sent in to "rally the troops". The Momons have a heavy recruitment operation going on in the Pacific Islander communities which are more receptive to the message coming from a less traditional Christian background than West Europeans.

  • Child of God asked: When did it become acceptable to march on churches? Interesting question because it seems to me that people should have been marching on churches a long time ago! Quit hiding responsibility for your actions beyond some holier than thou immunity to reproach. People have the right to protest wherever they want. It is called Democracy.

  • All this 6000 years of history baloney always fails to mention that for most of those 6000 years religious folks were tying gay people to stakes and burning them alive. You want to talk about religious history and traditions? Gay people have history to and the role of the church is not pretty!

  • If Gay marriage were legal there is absolutely nothing that stops a religion from teaching whatever they want about the subject. In fact their right to do so is present in California law and specifically called out in the 127 PAGES of ruling that made Gay marriage permissible in the state. That may sound kind of funny with all the screaming going on now, but if Prop 8 had not passed there would be no screaming. In fact noone would really have noticed any change at all accept those Gay people who chose to commit in this fashion. It is as cliche as all heck but it really boils down to..."If you dont like Gay marriage, then dont have one"

  • What is with all this silly Bible talk? What do the rantings of religious zealots have to do with the application of civil law in this country? I am not a Christian. The Bible really doesnt have the tiniest thing to do with me or my life. Quit pretending that it has any relevance to ME, just because it does to YOU.

  • As a gay person who volunteered for Jesse Jackson back in the day and witnessed him saying MANY times that the civil rights struggles of Gays and African Americans came from the same cloth I am perplexed by African Americans who seem offended by that concept. Im not talking about their votes on Prop 8 specifically, but the seeming offense that comes from suggesting that there are parallels between the two movements. If there is no parallel then what the heck was Rev Jackson talking about? For that matter Barack Obama who made it clear he thought we were all in this together?

  • Why does the Yes on 8 crowd continue to lie about there being civil unions in California? There is no such thing! There are "domestic partnerships" which have many restrictions not imposed on marriage (or even civil unions for that matter). More proof that the Pro 8 folks will make up any lie to get their way. Dont forget they went after Civil Unions in AZ and FL and other states as well.

  • I see alot of Pro 8 people claiming that this is just about marriage and that civil unions would be OK. I dont believe for a second that they would be talking this way if it we not for the Prop 8 response. Do not forget that the campaigns in Florida and Arizona banned civil unions as well, and the only reason Prop 8 did not is they could not qualify that version in time for the ballot. Dont be fooled by anti-gay wolves hiding in "civil union" clothing. They went after us this time even though we did nothing to them. They will do it again over civil unions, mark my words!
