The government of France has the right approach. All marriages are civil marriages. Couples must go to city hall to be legally married. A church wedding is NOT considered legal, even though a couple who wishes to do so can have a religious ceremony. Wouldn't this end once and for all the bible believer's argument that gay marriage is against their personal religious beliefs? I vote for taking religion out of marriage, and make ALL marriages civil. Take YOUR god out of MY government....
VOTE NO ON PROP 8!

Gay couples deserve the same right to be just as miserable as heterosexual couples!

Johnboy, we will not stand to be separate but equal under the laws! I was not created to sit in the back of the bus or shoved back into the closet! We deserve the same rights as every other human, and separating us from 1049 rights by amending the constitution is hypocritical! BIGOT!

"Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between Man & his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, & not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should "make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof," thus building a wall of separation between Church & State."
Thomas Jefferson
Ultimately the people of California, not the judges will define marriage.

Marriage has little to do with religion even between heterosexuals. The legal protections are afforded to adults who choose to live in the same residence and assume financial responsibilities for each other. Love and sex are really outside of the legal definition. It amazes me that a man and woman can marry in one day while two adults of equal age and background cannot simply because of gender. The definition of marriage in the church can be anything the church decides. All adults who choose to combine their lives and finances should be civil unions in the eyes of the government. Something about separation of church and state comes to mind.

It may surprise Dan to learn that the phrase "under God" was not added to the Pledge of Alegiance until the early 1950s. That was an assault on the Constitution, just as Proposition 8 is an assault on the Constitution, real Christianity, and common decency.

In 1977 the Calif. Legislature clarified what had never been challenged--that marriage is between one man and one woman. In 2000, the electorate of Calif. voted (61.4% to 38.6%) that "only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in Calif." Four judges decided they knew better, and found a new "fundamental right" for same-sex marriage. Prop 8 allows the people of Calif. to (again) define marriage. Domestic partnerships afford same-sex couples all the same rights as married couples (see Family Code ยง297.4(a). Thus, there is no need to change the traditional and historical definition of marriage. Yes on Prop 8.

Bigot is a perjorative term used quite frequently coming from the "no" side. The accusation is intollerance while over 200,000 vote "yes" on proposition 8 signs have been stolen or vanalized. Actions speak louder than words. "If we don't believe in freedom of expression for people we despise than we don't believe in it at all." - Noam Chomsky

Prop 8 is another assault on our constitution as was the rulling on GOD in schools and Goverment
"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands: one Nation under God, indivisible, With Liberty and Justice for all."
they took this out of schools so they can teach gay marriage ?????????

To paraphrase Jesus: "Love God, and love your neighbor as yourself." Rabbi Hillel added: "All the rest is commentary." If you enjoy the right to marriage, it is not within the spirit of Christianity to deny it to another. And Barack Obama, being part black and having been a civil rights attorney, should be positively ashamed of his decision to support "separate but equal". How quickly people forget.
