Can the U.S. feed a hungry world and help itself diplomatically at the same time? How? Discuss Food Diplomacy.

  • How can we be so advanced as a species, a civilization, and still not be able to feed everyone, right? At some point, everyone will realize this isn’t an issue of insufficient food supplies, greedy dictators, cruel policies, or any other excuse people like to use. People are the problem and the solution as well. Instead of escapism try personal responsibility? Care for the environment? Then enforce environmental sustainability with less reckless procreation. Harsh, but true.

  • I'm alll for aiding other countries. But what has happened to all of the financial and technical aid we have already provided through the years? It often winds up in the hands of dictators or their thugs who are more interested in keeping the populace under their thumb than helping it. We really can't help corrupt governments other than to fatten some Swiss bank accounts.

  • I take offense at the headlines on one of your articles: "Food Diplomacy A series on why and how the U.S. should outdo the Islamists at charity while fighting world hunger." What kind of typical red neck American philosophy and approach is that? SHAME ON YOU. This short-sightedness is typically what brings the US into public image trouble again and again.

  • "Give a man a fish, and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish, and he will eat for the rest of his life." Food aid is the solution to an imminent problem, but not a longer term solution. The US, and the world, should concentrate on ensuring people in developing countries can sustain themselves. For years, foreign food aid has been a dumping ground for highly subsidized domestic food from industrial countries, combined with political aid targetting (specifically by the US!! - in contrary to what this article series claims!). A food aid worker.

  • I think that the US can feed this hungry world because they have the power to do so. I don't feel that should be negotiated in any way. Instead of dropping food on them, they should send packages of fresh vegetables, fresh fish, and potatoes etc. Atleast this will meet some of the countries needs and keep them happy as well.

  • I think that the smart seed and fertilizer are the best ideas for solving the hunger problems in these countries. It would also be more cost effective for the U.S. to wire money to nongovernmental organizations to buy and distribute food the the poor during non-harvest times. I do think the U.S. needs to check with these countries first to make sure this is what they want. Also, the Plump'Doz is a really good idea, but the U.S. needs to put these ideas into action before more people die from starvation.

  • I believe that the U.S. could solve the promblem by taking a little more money towards making "special seeds" that will grow in thier inverment and the right suppulies to grow it all. If that took a little more money towards that they would not be spending all that money on wars because thier would not be wars like there is right now.I believe they should also do some kind of servey to find out what kind of foods they eat in those areas so we do not just give them something that would not be use anyway. And, also find would kind of suppulies they need like blankets ect. instead of just throwing things out of the sky at them.

  • Yes, I do believe that the U.S. can feed a hungry world. The U.S. is a very powerful country. They have the ability to help countries that are in need of food to help their poor people. I dont believe that by dropping it is the best idea, but they could figure out a better way to do it. They can send packages of food to other countries by sending them to institutions for the people who need it by airplain or sending trucks. They could also discuss other ideas with the government of the other countries to see in what other ways they can help.

  • i believe the united state can help other countries with food and other necassary things that they are in need of with out dropping it over there head and still get a good image for them self. is not that people dont apericiat what the united state is do, they just not like the way the united state is doing it. some countries believe the united state is not helping them the way they want to be help. some countries dont just need food the need pece in their countries, they want the united state to help them with that too. how can u help other countries and not help your own country too it dont make sence to.

  • I personally think that food dropping is one of the best things to encourage because it enable the food to reach the most needy almost everybody has a share. For instance in war zones, natural desaster areas as well. Also they can always exchange more fertelizer products for less food since their main aim is to help less develope nations solve their hungry problems.
