Discuss The Times' endorsement of Barack Obama for president

Comments will close after one week.

1. As an observer of world polictics, this is one of the best articles I have read, eloquent, thoughful and incisive. Obama, not only should he be president he has earned the right to be.

2. Looking at some of the posts here I am baffled at the lack of knowledge some folks still have - or perhaps how their biased views still don't allow them to see or hear clearly. Obama has presented a positive, clear, steady, calm message of unity that will help heal our country after the last 8 years of negativity, war, divisiveness and poor economic leadership. In the campaign he has run, McCain has proven the negativity, war, divisiveness and bad economy of the past 8 years will most certainly continue. This election should be a no-brainer. Really.

3. A wonderful, reasonable and hopeful argument that seeks the rightful break with the past that has brought on so much hardship at home and abroad. A democracy seeks to include and to unite, and that is what this great nation needs to repair itself.

4. I am very pleased with your endorsement of Obama for President. Very early on I felt McCain having more experience might be the best qualified, but his selection of Sarah Palin changed that and the negative tactics he has taken. That said, I do feel Obama even with less experience, will exercise an intelligent approach to problem solving and is truly concerned about the future generation and how he will be judged. Therefore, I believe he will try harder to do the right thing.

5. "Raised and educated abroad.." That is exactly why I wanted him for president months and months ago. As a New Yorker that has spent a total of three years in Europe (I'm sixty one years of age) I know it is impossible to really see America without the perspective of having lived outside our country. I've always thought to myself while overseas "If only all Americans could experience a foreign culture then, maybe they'd understand their own culture and the world's other cultures with more depth and less skepticism." Ah...if only.

6. Your kidding about Obama right. How has he proven he can lead this great nation. He doesn't have a clue. Check out McCain's tax plan vs Obamas/ When you do keep the big picture in mind. See below for McCain details. http://rochester.craigslist.org/rnr/890468741.html

7. Kudos! It is the best piece that I have read in recent times that has to do with politics that has not made me feel bitter. It is well-thought out and apropos for the current times. You have expressed your admiration of and disappointment in McCain in a very grown-up manner. As for the global destruction that the current president has wrought upon us, you have been too generous. You are right in your conclusion about Obama's glowing traits. Politicians think that mediocrity is what the American public wants. They are dead WRONG! We are a nation with high aspirations for ourselves and the rest of the world. Let no one tell us any different.

8. There is no question that Barack Obama is an articulate speaker & is intelligent. Those qualities in & of themselves do not qualify him to be President. Most of histories dictators including Adolf Hitler & Saddam Hussein were also good speakers who were intelligent. Barack has also been endorsed by the racists Louis Farrakan & Jeremiah Wright, the Hamas terrorist group & Fidel Castro. So, the Times is in elite company with their endorsement. With this endorsement, the Times has made crystal clear to the world their liberal bias, which we already knew to be the case.

9. I'm glad that the Times has stepped up to endorse Barack Obama. The Times have proven that they not only are ready to begin a new era in Politics, but they are taking a big step into history by backing a Minority Candidate that will certainly change the views of the rest of the world on how America is the land of opportunity. We are a great nation where dreams come true and like MLK stated "I have a dream" well don't wake me up because the dream is coming true. The LA Times will have my loyalty from this day on. I'm proud of this country, I'm proud to be an American, and I'm proud to be a regular of the L.A. Times. Barack Obama in '08.

10. Amazing how you avoid posting my comments when they disagree with you endorsement and especially since the readers will be aware that Obama is indirectly responsible for the economic crisis as attorney for ACORN. I dare you to take a risk and post this one. If not you will confirm my assumption that you are one-sided. The opposite will encourage my readership.
