  • Well said! It would be no small boon to this country if when this election is over, virulent ideology is buried. It was one thing when leaflets would be passed around the town square and trampled under horses hooves. It is another to be shreiked at by the likes of TV News, CNN, Fox, the Newspapers, and the Internet. It is not a debate, it is a mindboggling cacophony. George Washington warned us of the evils of political parties. His foresight is worth heeding.

  • Obama should try to bring everybody together AFTER he stops the bleeding and brings the country back to where it was before the anti-government Bush Administration was appointed.

  • The best way for McCain to have distanced himself from the calamity of the Bush years (his only real way to win) would have been to choose Lieberman as a running mate. A party which would not allow him to do this is more concerned with ideology than actuality, & deserves whatever it gets.

  • The binding of the nation's wounds will come about when the American people feel secure that the new President has the brain power, networks of support, and understanding of complex relationships to quickly gain consensus about which major problems to solve first, second, third, etc. We need leaders intelligent and ethical in equal parts.

  • Over the past 8 years, the Bush administration has acted usually on a partisan basis, favoring businesses that support republican candidates and causes and has made appointments with regard to their religious right beliefs. Remember that Bush lost the popular vote in 2000 but was appointed by the Supreme Court effectively when the recount was halted, and "won" by less then 1% majority in 2004, you would think that he would have been more bi-partisan then what has materialized. Obama should keep that in mind when working with individuals of the other isle.

  • barack obama is a far left wing partisan who has never voted outside his party. as a conservative, i am outraged at his friendships, associations and actions. perhaps more than that, i am disgusted by the way the left and their media, including this paper, have disparaged and vilified conservatives the last 8 years and during this election, including not properly vetting an inexperienced junior senator from illinois. for me, there is no unity with an upcoming democratic/socialist leadership and sadly, i feel this country is divided to the point of no return.

  • If anyone thinks Obama or McCain can reunite Americans after the last 8 years of hate speech from the Left , they are simply dilusional. All those "highly educated, and elite Leftists" (an oxymoron if ever there was one), now want everyone to be civil and bipartisan after they demonstrated vile hate for President Bush and America over the last 8 years. One simple reply is to the Left is sufficient, Go to hell!

  • Gee, I don't know what the Times is worried about. The drive-bys have already declared the election over, and The O Man the hands-down winner. And, presuming Congress goes majority Demo, well, there is no need to cover the other side of the issue, because, well, obviously, there is no other side of an issue. The O Man and his minions are the ONLY right answer to all things.

  • I recall the last time there was a call to bring everyone together. What we got instead was eight years of the most partisan, divisive administration in the history of the country. Good riddance to you W. and the rest of your foul crew.
