if governments are going to legalize gay marriage, shouldn't they have to legalize polygamy also? it would be a double standard, if same-sex couples are aloud to marry because some people believe its not immoral then people should be aloud to practice polygamy because some people believe thats not immoral. people impose their moral beleifs on others all the time in government, if you want to eliminate on you have to be willing to eliminate them all.

At 6:45pm Pacific Nov 4 I received a pre-recorded automated call from the nutty Right Wing bible bangers quoting (out of context) Barack Obama as saying he believes that marriage is between a man and a woman - but cut him off when he says he supports civil unions, etc. Apparently they see McCain going "down" and now want to misuse our Obama to conduct their horrible anti-civil rights campaign. Shame on them! And I live in West Hollywood! And to NoPhobe's comments - get therapy.

Isn't it ironic that it takes 2 heterosexual people to make a gay kid? What about the people who don't believe in God? Should they have to follow God's rules? 2 gay people getting married doesn't hurt anyone and in my humble opinion God doesn't make mistakes. He is perfect and so are all of his creations. They are just different. Can't we as humans just love who we love? Instead of hating or judging? I'm straight but have no right to butt into someone elses life because I think it's wrong IF if is not hurting anyone.

Except you omit one crucial point #44 Justin in OC... YOU SODOMITES ARE ALREADY JUDGED FOR CONDEMNATION BY GOD!!! How the hell you imbeciles manage to conveniently omit out these details is absolutely amazing.
If you read every word in the Bible you couldn't miss the FACT that God not only encompasses the greatest love, but as well, the harshest of punishments for ALL those who violate His Commandments and (natural) Law. And be advised you holier-than-thou Christians, that latter point applies to you doubly that you profess to follow Jesus' example. Be careful all!

"I'm for Prop 8, and I agree with Michael, just call it civil union, and marriage for man-women. Redifining marriage based on a minority is just wrong.

hmmm... flip the tables. Lets call your marriage a "domestic partnership". Doesn't feel so good. I got married on July 2nd. It has a LOT more spiritual and cultural meaning to us and everyone else than saying "We are domestic partners or have a civil union."

The laws written against polygamy in this country have violated the rights of consenting adults to enter into the marriage relationship of their choosing as well. The same arguments of civil rights violations and discrimination being made by same sex marriage proponents can equally be made by those who seek other forms(Cousin marriage anyone) of marriage as well. To discriminate against them is subjecting someone's own arbitrary definition of marriage upon those who seek to practice other forms of marriage. Does your "tolerant" line of morality only extend so far?

Since when do the laws governing marriage have anything to do with children? Half of the married couples I know are childless. And half of the people I know with children are either unmarried or have been divorced.
What a smoke screen. You Yes on 8 people are a crock of poop.

Marriage is not only about the adults but also about the children and our future as a society. Marriage and family has been the fundamental institution to all societies since the beginning of recorded time and I'm sure it is that way for good reason. Where the family goes so goes society. One only has to look at the dissolution of families over the last fourty years and see it's results in our nation. What will happen to our nation as the understanding and purpose of family is further weakened? Now is not the time to initiate a major sociological experiment which runs incredibly contrary to our basic biological design.
