  • Rick is about to enter a new world where the United Nations does more than siphon hard earned citizen taxpayer dollars from the United States. It enables rouge nations like Iran to continue its nuclear (pronounced new-clear) arms program, countries like Somalia to pirate shipping and hold them for ransom, puts Mexico as chair of the United Nations Human Rights Council, and allow genocide and terrorism to run rampant. Rick is reading the OpEd from the LA Times he is finally going to understand it as never before because Rick is about to enter......The Twilight Zone.

  • Whatever credibility the LATimes had left is now gone. Is not the US the greatest bulwark against such evils? Has the board forgotten that it was the US that protected the world from genocide in WWII, ended the Cold War and has presided over the destructions of countless nuclear weapons, that the UN has failed miserably throughout the world (including Darfur) to stop atrocities instead choosing to focus on labelling the state of Isreal a racist state. In its blind hatred for the Bush Administration, the LATimes editorial board has left reason at the doorstep. It is for that reason that the LATimes paper will never again reach my doorstep.

  • The U.N. "is the world's only meaningful bulwark against nuclear proliferation, human-rights violations, genocide and wars of conquest"? Really? And here I had the silly idea that it was the U.S. Marine Corps that met that description.

  • the liberal bs is ever deepening at the la times,if that is possible.one sentence you state that rice "favors dialogue"and next paragraph she"backs a u.s. led bombing campaign of sudan".the united nations is a joke.it is full of amer.haters and israel haters.obama is a liar.

  • Please provide an example of when the UN has been a "bulwark against nuclear proliferation, human-rights violations, genocide, and wars of conquest." One example please.

  • Liberals are delusional.

  • When Sudan heads the Human Rights Commission, we know that the UN is a farce. The day of the Mubai bombings there was no condemnation of the terrorists but there was six resolutions bashing Israel.

  • It's laughable reading the comments complaining about the UN's failures, when the USA bears much of the blame in turning this institution into the ineffective mess it is in now.

  • So the UN is the "only meaningful bulwark against nuclear proliferation, human rights violations, genocide and wars of conquest". Well, the same week the murders in Mumbai were taking place, the UN General Assembly passed six more anti-Israel resolutions. Any resolutions passed against Islamic terrorists or the countries that condone and harbor these butchers? The baby son of Rabbi Holtzberg and his wife, Rivkah, was spared being killed in Mumbai. His parents were tortured and murdered. The baby's name is Moshe (Moses in Hebrew). He was saved by a non-Jewish woman. How prophetic.

  • Yippee. I can hardly wait until the UN has a meeting to schedule a meeting to decide on the topic of the meeting they will have regarding Mumbai. The UN is a worthless organization which should suit Ms. Rice fine. "Rice is a liberal multilateralist." What this means is how many people can the UN get to agree that it's all morally equivalent, thus, we should do nothing.
