Thumbs up or down?

Did Obama blow it or nail it? Discuss today's Blowback.

Comments will close after two weeks.

1. You stated "You don't know any church that respects, much less reflects, my personal beliefs in the absolute equality of all people". Sir, I challenge you to check out Kansas City Baptist Temple, "A church for all people" You will have a very pleasant surprise. The web site is www.kcbt.org. You certainly have nothing to lose and some great faith to gain.

3. Well said, sir. Thank you for giving many of us (Americans) a bit of credit. Unfortunately, the media seems to have given Obama another free pass on this one. Just BECAUSE he gave a speech, he's been called a uniter, and compared to Lincoln, etc. Many Americans don't think critically, and they don't want to because they are lazy. Many of us rely on sound bytes to make sweeping judgements about people, places, and things. I have done my research. I have to agree with you point for point. I commend you for having the guts to say what you've said.

4. Fantastic article. I don't think Obama blew it though, at least he is addressing certain issues, however he should of elaborated a bit more....overall good job though on his speech and your article! But about this: " don't know any church that respects, much less reflects, my personal beliefs in the absolute equality of all people, so I choose not to belong to any of them." Have you ever heard of Googlism? Check it out sometime, even if you don't like the idea you might still get a laugh out of it. It is a parody after all. www.thechurchofgoogle.org

5. My advice to Meyers and all the wannabe critics is "Don't hate. Appreciate." In addition, I need to remined him as all other wanna-be Haters. We do have the First Amendment which guarantees separation of church and state. Obama's private decision about which church to attend is a private decision. We do not launch political campaigns against white candidates for the churches they attend, that fact that only black candidates get this form of so-called "vetting" proves precisely that racism is alive and well.

6. With all due respect, sir, you sound like a Black angry man yourself. Have you sat back and listened to yourself lately?

7. All I can say to this editorial is "AMEN." After listening closely to Mr. Obama's speech last Tuesday, I kept waiting, and waiting, and, am still waiting. But, Mr. Meyers has neatly pointed out what I was awaiting. No, I can no longer ride that smooth running and cushiony ObamaTrain. Seems the destination is same as all the previous one-way runaways, which is NOWHERE.

10. He nailed it. From his opinion, Meyers appears to be very confused. He seems to believe that acknowledging the depth of the pain of racism is the same thing as being trapped by the pain. I'm not sure how he came to that line of reasoning because it certainly doesn't coincide with anything that we know about the way that people deal with, and get past pain. I'm also baffled by Myers' observation that Obama hasn't 'talked plainly about our commonality as human beings'.
