Should the Justice and Development Party be banned? Discuss today's Blowback.

1.
SAS, I can only laugh at your thread. "Jewish and Christian rights have been expanded." Are you kidding? What happened then to Hrant Dink? Wasn't he killed for expressing his views as a Christian, Turkish-Armenian? What about that Italian priest who were killed by an ultra-nationalist? Is this how AKP "expands" freedoms? Your thread is a joke....
2. First, AKP should be banned. For more information, please read Robert Ellis' fantastic response to Egemen Bagis dated 28 March 2008. Secondly, he is an advisor to a PM, who repeatedly stated that Turkish families should have at least 3 kids. The rest of the world is trying to promote birth control and create educated societies, whereas PM Erdogan and AKP believe that "the more the merrier." I wish we had a smaller but richer, more educated population today.
3. AKP is hiding behind democracy just like Hitler did. Prime Minister and head of AKP Mr. Erdogan' following words were quoted in Turkish newspapers word by word: " Democracy is like a train. We get on it, and once we reach our destination, we will get off" When he was the mayor of Istanbul, Mr. Erdogan said that, in Islam it was permissible to "lie" in order to bring Sharia (Islamic law). He is now in that stage of lying in order to ultimately create another Iran out of Turkey.
4. AKP is made up of not real Islams but people who use religion (the repressive kind) to get votes. Furthermore they buy poor people's vote with a bag of groceries while they sell and steal the resources of the country. In the last 5 years I have seen a regression in freedoms in the country especially for woman - democracy indeed. They are wolves in sheep's clothing.
5. Mr Bagis could also have mentioned that Turkey's economy has boomed since the AKP took power, inflation has plummeted, corruption has come under control, foreign investment has exploded and the country's democratic credentials have been solidified by the decision to open EU membership talks. Jewish and Christian communities have seen their legal rights expanded. A blueprint for theocracy ? No thinking mind should buy this !
6. As always, AKP tries to base their argument on democracy. However real democrat and secular people in Turkey know that this concept is only a tool for them, which they intend to use until they reach their anti-secular goals. Turks may have been Muslims for 1300 years, but it has always been the secular version of Islam that has taken place in Anatolia, not the one that some people try to copy from Arabic countries.
7. AKP is a conservative party with fundamentalist roots. They have escalated the efforts to change the modern and secular structure of the state since the last election. Most of the allegations cited in the court charges are correct and based on facts. Turkey really needs better representatives than these bunch of local politicians.
8. Sevket Zaimoglu, "AKP is based on newspaper stories, rumors, and pure speculation" What rumors? Most of those allegations are based on TV footage.
9. Sir, Mr. Bagis spoke on behalf of his party and quoted some foreign experts but not even one of his country men's views. He did not mention the 160 reasons and justification behind the constitutional charges against his party. In fact, his party recently arrested and jailed opposition politicians and journalists. Is that his democracy? No, that is more of the so-called !"Islamo-facism". No, the AKP does not represent the long-term interests of Turkey or of the modern thinking peoples of Turkey. The AKP is hiding behind democracy, just like Hitler did, in order to destroy the modern Kemalist-style state form. Kufi Seydali
10. I wonder where 62% comes from.
