How can campuses fix the rape crisis? Discuss today's Blowback.

1. I was curious about this and wanted to get some reliable statistics. so i went to the FBI's web page to look it up. I quickly discovered that in 2006 year 1 in 1600 women are reported raped every year. The tally method wasn't clear but i think they counted every arrest, not conviction, so the boys at Duke may be in that number. This number is for every woman not just those in collage, but to go from 1600 to 4, a increase of 400 times is quite a jump.

2. Coni, You need to choose a better role model than H. Clinton. Before you comment on the severity issue of rape and H. in the same context. Get real. How can you put that comment in here. First of all she never was and never will be a role model of values, candor and ethics! As to sex, No means No!!! On campus, off campus, drinking/not drinking, drugs/no drugs, how she/he dresses. It does not matter-No Means No!!! you noticed I put HE in the line above, because it also happens when women force themselves on guy's, and if he rejects he is taunted or called gay it happens check your stats. No Means No. Beyond that it's RAPE!!!!

3. If his comments have any purpose other than to demean the experiences of sexual assault victims, to make rape victims feel more alone, and to prevent educational, effective discussion about consent and compassion, I look forward to reading it. Joe Reilly

4. Until Mr. Ejercito can produce a statistically reliable method for calculating numbers that are acceptable to his reality, I'll rely on sociologists, psychologists, statisticians, and others who professionally deal in facts, trends, and peer-reviewed study.Mr. Ejercito's insistence on his statistically and factually unsupported view based on his personal, casual observance of the women in his life is ridiculous and insulting to thinking people.

5. What is the point of Mr. Ejercito's claim? Rape happens too often, regardless of whose numbers are used. It would be a disservice to sexual assault victims and potential sexual assault victims to use only the numbers of "reported" rapes and sexual assaults. Numerous studies conducted through anonymous survey confirm that a hugely significant number of persons who experienced sexual activitiy without their consent do not report the event as a crime for a variety of reasons.

6. A well-thought out op-ed. I disagree with Mr. Ejercito's comment, as I believe that his assertion does not counter Ms. Watts' argument. False accusations for any crime should be legally punishable; however, honest accusations of rape is what Ms. Watts is discussing. Mr. Ejercito's comment is typical of men who deny the severity of actual rape, attempting to deviate the argument from its path. Behavior, manner of dress (or undress), and consumption of any drug/beverage never condones the act of rape.

7. Overestimating the incidence of rape is just as dishonest as claiming that rape is a big hoax.

8. A good first step would be to elect Hillary Clinton as President! Perhaps then Americans will start to take women seriously as being equal in value and respect as men. Women need to do that first, of course, and stop letting people convince them that their dress, actions or other behaviors put them in a position where a "rape" is in anyway there own fault.
