Nat gas estimates are rising almost dailey, the latest is 1247 trillion cf. We have 800 billion barrels of recoverable oil shale in the western US. We have huge coal reserves. We can force more nat. gas from coalbeds by co 2 sequestration and two nat gas pipelines are in planning to even more increase North American supplies. Along with wind, solar, nuclear, improved batteries and methane from landfills along the with oil sands of Canada and our own oil production we CAN be energy self sufficient (with Canada's help) IF we get the right leadership in Washington!

*sigh* Wind is a viable source for energy. It can generate enough power to replace gas and gas can replace oil. Wind would generate power while solar batteries would be charged and ready to deliver when the energy being generated by the wind is depleted. Simply using power the moment its generated is not really necessary nor the way it is normally done as you mentioned that wind doesn't blow 24 hours a day. I can't help but wonder if anyone will bother to read this post or realize that the entire WORLD not just the U.S could be powered by hydrogen.

T. Boone Pickens energy plan "is an Energy Plan"! In fact it is a great plan, that can and will work if the American people have the will to implement it.
We need to keep our AMERICAN MONEY in the US and stop sending it overseas to OUR ENEMIES. Is that to hard for you environmentalist to understand that never spent one day serving their country?
I suggest you move to Russia, or Venezuela and live there. Maybe you can clean up their environments to your standards.
BTW- Your numbers on world gas reserves our out dated.

I agree with Mr. Pickens Plan but we must all pull together as Americans and address the issue of foreign oil dependence as a common enemy, and attack it with everything we've got. To make up for lapses in naturally occurring winds in the plains, just build a wind farm around the U.S. capital, plenty of wind there except during recesses.

We can all bitch about the energy problems that we face, but isn't going to change a thing. We need to just DO SOMETHING. The frustrating part is how little power we have as individuals to make something happen...

Wind Turbines are not realistic. They are expensive, high maintenance, require tax incentives, noisy, ugly, kill and maime birds, and only work when the wind blows..
They are not economical and not green.
They are bloody red for birds and eventually very costly for the electric consumer.
I am amazed that ocean wave electric generation was not mentioned, which is in its infancy, but is green and delivers a constant flow of electrical energy.

Pickens wants to replace electricity production with wind - but only 3% of our electricity comes from oil. Not much of a savings in oil imports there..... But that's okay, because Pickens owns a wind power company, and he'll make a fortune from investments and huge government subsidies. He wants us to convert to natural gas vehicles - despite having NONE of the infrastructure required in place, and no hydrogen vehicles ready for production. But that's okay, because he owns a natural gas company, and he'll make a fortune on the investments and the government subsidies.
Pickens Plan is more about pickin pockets than cutting oil imports

This is very interesting, and I like to hear more about this on the cable shows that are promoting Pickens like he is some sort of hero. Even before reading this article I thought something was fishy about his plan. I mean, if it was that damn simply why hasn't he done it before? Obviously, there is a motive of profit involved for him, but I'd like to see more energy and money devoted to a battery powered car. That will reduce our dependence on foreign oil and hopefull help to save the plane.

Our country has been for years now centralizing enegry production. In the old days we had hydroelectric power plants in our local enviroment. Just around close I can recall several local power plants that were shut down, because of bigger plants owned by bigger corporations. I am just saying there is a lot we could do if we wolud wake up. Pickens has a plan. I think that there are a lot smarter people who if were inspired could come up with as good or better plan. The people in the United States needs to wake up and understand that we are in trouble.

Never Trust an Oil Billionaire. Not when he's discussing "public policy" - that is, using the State to further enrich himself. T. Boone Pickens, who wants the feds to force the rest of us to promote those ugly, eery, noisy windmills.
Oh yeah, and Al Gore is a "green" profiteer as well. i want my tax dollars back!!!!!
