What should we do to get through the housing bust? Discuss today's Big Fix.
From the Los Angeles Times
Two and a half years ago I moved to Austin,
Texas. I didn't want to be in Cali for the impending real estate crash and "took my money off the table", perhaps a little too soon.
There are many other Californians here and
we fit in as Austin is the Wierd capital of Texas. It's like a little island of California. Got
a nice 2200' fixer from HUD in a nice area
for would you believe $155K? Not a bad parking spot until sanity return to So. Cal.

In reply to; "If you can't say something nice"....the Little House on the Prarie character you are refering to was Nells Olsen, not Merlin.

THANK YOU for your post to Sara Miller. My sentiments exactly. I endured so many wanna-be Donald Trumps trying to peddle their lean-tos for over a half million dollars and turning their noses up at my thoughtfully calculated offers by either not countering or countering at the same list price.

Also to Sara Miller-I am on sean's side. All I heard from all the 1 property real estate tychoons was that i was throwing my money away on rent and an idiot. My rent has always been under 500 a month and these people who drank the cool-aid are paying 10k in property taxes alone. And all the refinancing they did gave them "free money" to throw away. And now I am the jerk. Don't dish if you can't take. May the rich loose everything, i hope. Will it hurt the poor the most? I think so. To the snobs of 2005 ha ha. 500k for a starter home? i don't think so..

All of us who were smart enough not to buy when house prices became ridiculous had to listen to all of you brag about the great deals and the large amounts of money you were going to make. Now it is our turn to be excited, so stop being a little cry babies. You blew it and you know it, next time wake up and smell the coffee, or at least take a look at history before you invest everything.

Sara Miller -- I've been listening for years to people at parties talk about how it's such a big mistake to rent, anybody who rents must be an idiot, it's just throwing money away, home prices will always go up and they will never come down. I'm a renter and I've had to listen to this. Now it's your turn; what goes around comes around.

I find the post by Sara Miller and the subsequent comments absolutely fascinating. For those who feel similarly, may I humbly suggest:

I seem to remember everyone who was in the housing market pressuring those not, to get in "or they will be left out". Huge social pressure to buy property or be a "loser". Of course this also was about getting suckers to keep the airplane climbing. Now real estate doesn't look so good. So why should those who played it safe be quiet about the current market envirnoment to be nice now? (BTW, I own my main property as well as my eventual retirement home in full so defnitely not a spoil sport)

To Sara Miller-
For the last four years all I heard at parties was how much money everybodys home was worth. I have a feeling you probably engaged in this at least once. Now it is my time to gloat. I hope you home value goes in the tank and I could care less if you will be able to retire....wow that felt good......for me!

I want to know where these experts were when the ponzi scheme was going full blast. Formulating opinions maybe? What an idiot post.
