We need to find a Michelle Rhee for LAUSD. She's getting some amazing results in DC.

Admiral Brewer should never have been selected for this job. Those of us that worked with him at his last Navy job were well aware that his main objective upon retirement was to "make money." While he may have had a family background in education and he may want to help children, the primrary driver in his post-Navy job search was money.

I'd support Tokofsky in a heartbeat. He "gets" it, and he won't succumb to outside interests.

Although Ramon Cortines is well liked and respected, his time as Chancellor of New York City schools and superintendent in San Jose, San Francisco, and elsewhere, did +not+ result in educational improvements in those cities. There are reasons that Cortines has held so many positions over the years, and they do not bode well for LAUSD if he is put in charge here.
Also, Cortines is 75. How long will it be before we have to replace him?

New experiment. Empower the teachers. Assign students to teachers teams that would be with the students for multiple grades and years. They would get to know the students, understand how to motivate them, recognize their strength and weakness, and communicate with their parents. These teachers teams would be empowered with autonomy, skill variety, feedback plus recognition and rewards for work well done. The performance standards, teaching plans, methods, tools and practices would be geared to the schoolÂ’s demographic contexts and needs. For teaching purposes, decentralize the district to K12 and its feeder schools for feedback.

Bob, you know nothing. LAUSD is a ring of thieves and the UTLA is the only way we teachers have a chance to try to keep these fools in check. Forget Steve Barr. He is just sucking on the teat of public education. Pay teachers well, give them good benefits, and let them run things locally instead of the big district and mini districts screwing things up. You just do not know anything!

David Tokofsky should be the next Superintendent!

Brewer is leaving with his next two years paid, including expense account money. Ge, I wish I had an expense account to paid for the paper and pencils I have to buy my students because the district does not have the money to supply the basics. Good luck Brewer, enjoy the students' money.

Ok, so Mr. Brewer is leaving. He is leaving the students without a parachute.

Well, it is time for change. Next time select someone with an understanding for change.
Mr Brewer needed a plan. Start at the lower grade levels. Parents will support a person for change.
