  • Why the word "Arab"? Why don't Africa as it is the worst region in the world (remember Somalia, Zimbabwe, etc)? Or, why don't you use word China as it is also doing a bad thing like in Tibet?

  • I do object to a Muslim being the President of our country. In our world you don't see Buddhists, or Hindu's, or Christians being suicide bombers. I haven't seen any of the above fly planes into buildings to kill it's citizens. I, also, haven't seen any of the above cut people's heads off with dull knives like Muslims have. Do most Muslims do this? No, but until Muslims get their own under control I don't think this country can afford to have one as their leader. October 16, 9:25 AM

  • "In a "don't worry, be happy" tone, I breezily noted that although the stoking of racial fear and xenophobia was a cherished tradition of American politics" - how can that be breezy? Americans shrug their shoulders and smile goofily at some very serious things. When i explained to my American college educated friend how damaging Bush's wars were, she gave me the same bright smile "oh you know, Bush, he's a doofus, and we're always fighting someone.." Shrug and smile away war and xenophobia???!!

  • How do you think my children have felt growing up in the US when they have been called ragheads, sand niggers, and camel jockeys? You think these racial epithets have just begun? Try being a Palestinian in the US. To suggest that Muslims/Arabs are any more violent than Christian/Jews is to deny what we and Israel are doing to the Iraqis and the Palestinians. It's disgusting. I'm sick of it. And every person in the US should start saying, "We will not under any circumstances tolerate racist comments about Arabs or Muslims."

  • Whether we believe it or not, today’s word is divided over the basic reasons for attacking countries like Afghanistan, Iraq, and now preparing to attack Iran. Had there been such a situation in the world before 200 years, it would have been certainly named as an outright war between Christian and Muslim nations. Though it is not so today, as there are fundamental dissimilarities of the situations.

  • John D. Stephens wrote: Islam is based on an ancient worship of the tribal moon god (look at mosque minarets); i.e. The Answer: I have read a legend about it! The crescent sign was picked by Sultan Muhammad While he was planning a expedition to capture Constantinople and he needed a defined flag. Just that he looked at the horizon and found e crescent & a star with a reddish background, and liked it; adopted the pattern and that has lasted ever since; his empire was one of the largest in Asia and Europe- not bad! So the crescent also became part of the minarets cuz he was Muslim! It wasn,t there before!

  • Correction, Mark Jeffery Koch. The Muslim world has not been silent. It is you and the mainstream media that have been criminally deaf to their screaming out against terrorism, as Muslims have been the #1 targets by their so-called Muslim brethren. Of course, speaking out for peace does not make the evening news.

  • Thank you Constance for the Mormon-Arab/Muslim hypocracy observation. If the media was sincere about religion in the first place, they might makes some headway for both mormons & muslims. Unfortunately, journalism without an agenda is on the endangered species list. What many (not all) evangelicals-protestant leaders are doing to mormons, muslims and the like is certaintly a shame considering the tolerance and freedoms this nation has fought so hard to keep.
