Wow, the ultimate in stupid decisions. Way to go, McCourt. Stick to baseball.

Tina, if you do a bit more research you will find out that it is our city leaders who have forced the day of week change. They will not allow the marathon to be held on a Sunday - any Sunday. Don't blame McCourt and company for something that is out of their hands. Please make a couple more phone calls and correct your story.

Tina Dupuy goes not quite far enough. Nobody in authority seems to know what it takes to train for/run a marathon, or to have respect for those already training to run this one. To make such changes DURING the training cycle is to say nothing less than "Screw you" to all us.
Among my running friends and acquaintances, the level of disdain for marathon participants has upset newbies and disgusted long-timers. If the religious leaders who complained are now satisfied with the shameful way this was handled in behalf of their interests, that shows them to be hypocrites unworthy of their positions.

Is the the L.A. Marathon for the runners? The answer should obviously be "YES". However, the people in charge, politicians and other non-runners seem to have LOUDER voices than the actual runners. 2007 and 2008 LA Marathon was extremely hot even though both of them were held in early March. Moving it to May 25th is asking for trouble. Many are predicting many people might even die due to heat. Remember Chicago Marathon? Please have some common sense and bring it back to early March or sooner on a Sunday like 99% of all other marathons!!!

I too am disappointed after the date change, this would have been my 7th LA marathon.(I am registered, but don't know if I will be able to do it then.)
I am hoping the cancelled Pasadena Marathon will consider March 1 as a reschedule date. And, I've heard about people who are going to run the LA course on the original March 1 anyway...
The argument about heat in May is iffy - remember we have "June gloom" and it may very well be overcast.
Still, for any students or school employees, May-June is not when we have any extra time to give up a weekend, mid school-year is by far the best time.

Better than the Pasadena Marathon which announced its cancellation and a long winded explanation why refunds would not be given out and hinted at *maybe* a discount if you sign up again. Talk about Marathon fail!

The best is that this will be tied into the dodgers in some way - i assume there is some dodger game or something that weekend that will be a tie - in. When the yogurt really hits the fan, as a giants fan, i will be thrilled to see the dodgers tarnished.
If you run the LA marathon this year, keep the shirt along with the Palin 2012 shirt. Good memories.

I did the LA Marathon the last two years (2007 and 2008) and it was warm both times--in early March. In fact, I set a personal WORST at the 2008 marathon, but was still planning to do the 2009 one as it is a great race in a great city. But late May? That's ridiculous. Please, Mr McCourt, please rethink this idea. It is easier to take President's Day off (that is what I was planning to do) than to deal with the increased heat. Please listen to the other posters and the many runners who are begging you not to destroy the LA Marathon--please keep it in the winter.

Since when has LA been a theocracy? Since when do religious leaders decide for the city? How many people's church attendance is really affected by the marathon?
Carol @ 1:06 PM PST, Nov 26, 2008
"Great. First we don't have a football team, and now we don't have a marathon." Thanks Frank McCourt.
Shouldn't we worry about fixing the lousy Dodgers team first? then we can focus on other things like the Marathon?
Can all the religious people skip one Sunday from church? I guess they all decide to go to church on Marathon Sunday.
