  • If only the Bush White House thought through some of the policies it has burdened future generations with. Channey was the intelligence of the Bush administration. What does it say about the intelligence of the republicans to select Sarah Palin? I would like to think that I could vote for a republican, but for that to happen, he would have to be very bright. There hasn't been a bright republican presidential candidate since Lincoln.

  • This is a thought-provoking piece. These possible candidates are cause for hope. But one has to wonder if Powers will be so enthusiastic as to support military intervention like the neoconservatives. Definitely a reason to watch who is chosen by Obama as foreign policy advisors.

  • He left out Albright. But more to the point, the problem with his argument is selective evidence. Rostow was an economist not an international relations scholar. Many leading international relations scholars in the 1960s like Waltz opposed Vietnam, and the majority of them opposed the invasion of Iraq and published a public letter to this effect. Wolfowitz was always outside the mainstream. And in the Bush administration Condi Rice has been more a voice of reason than say, Cheney, or Rumsfeld both canny, pragmatic pols but she has been a weak player.

  • Bushes policy advisers did exactly what they set out to do, and we are living the results of those policies. Obama's policy advisers, on the other hand, will work on behalf of America and Americans as well as non-Americans. The right-wing bigots, religious nuts, and big-money interests will fight Obama at every turn so change will come slowly, but it will come. If nothing else, it will be so nice to have people back in the White House that are smart and understand how government works.

  • A sound and consistent U.S.foreign policy has become a victim of partisan politics. For instance, intervention in Kosovo was good because it was Clinton's idea, Ending "ethnic cleansing" in Iraq was bad because it was Bush's idea.Samantha Powers and her ilk send mixed messages to the world.

  • The last thing we need is a bunch egg heads. Theory isnt worth a damn without a strong arm and it time for the public to realize that egg heads never fight for this country and are rarely if ever veterans. We surely dont need people that are all mouth and thought and unwilling to fight and die and sacrifice for this nation! Truman, Eisenhouer, Nixon, Kennedy at least fought for this nation, too bad the same cant be said for most of our egg head foreign policy experts who were too cowardly to join the people .
