  • Public Voting to select our Reps and the President makes them to some extent Accountable whereas Public Corporations are NOT AT ALL ACCOUNTABLE to any one. The current Economic Scenario speaks volumes about the 8 years'US Administration Accountability . A Balanced Approach is Needed for BOTH through a PUBLIC OVERSIGHT SYSTEM to be set up on a proper basis. THIS IS POSSIBLE.

  • Oh sure. If you like the way the companies are run now - just wait until congress runs them! Absurd thinking that comes from little minds that believe they could do a better job.

  • Right.. because the government is so good at running businesses, and making money. Umm, no thanks. BTW - The F150 is utter crap next to a Tacoma.

  • My first reaction was "Great idea- the US government can't run GM any worse than GM has." My second reaction was, "Just let them go bankrupt so pensions and salaries can be renegotiated."

  • I keep hearing that we cannot trust the Govt to do anything right. If that is really the case, how can we trust it with our military and with its Trillion dollar plus budget.

  • Anyone lauding an F-150 pickup that does approximately 15mpg is just as clueless as the Big Three's management. Why not call for a smaller, lighter, 35mpg diesel-powered Ford Ranger instead? But nooooo....

  • Gm is in their situation because they put themselves there. The market is correcting itself - let it. GM will fail without a gov't loan? LET IT. Like the banks and sub-prime borrowers, GM made a lot of stupid short-sited decisions and 90% of their product is inferior to their competitors. Do I feel sorry for the workers who'd lose their jobs? Sure, but many of them will anyhow. GM and the UAW are 2 institutions that thrive on their sense of entitlement. Their cars, attitudes and awareness-levels are all lacking. Let 'em crash and burn and learn a hard lesson once and for all, AND NOT ON MY DIME!

  • If Detroit takes loans and then goes broke then we don't repayment - right? Detroit has been so wrong so many times - why do we think they'll get it right this time? I want them to succeed but I don't think they are able to change. Sort of like our gov'ts.

  • Why aren't the bailout banks getting the same roasting as the car companies? If the car companies couldn't see the $4 gasoline coming, why should we believe they know they can turn around their failure?

  • GM says the EV1 was a failure. Yet it performed as good or better than many of the products we know well and were being sold back then - the Honda CR-X, Honda delSol, Toyota MR-2, etc Plenty of cars of similar size and performance and thousands of people bought them but GM wanted us to buy high margin SUVs
