  • Why the Black innocent double standard? Blacks have been hurting Mexicans since my youth days in the 1980's. In the Imperial Valley where I am from, there are no Black Brown issues and it helps that there aren't Blacks there. Blacks bring a different energy. And for Jamiel Shaw as a former football player from LA High stated, "He was a gang member"; so why the double standards for Blacks?

  • Black/Latino conflict is public policy. African Americans and Latino immigrants occupy coveted urban real estate. Contrived, encouraged, enforced racial gang conflict, and sensational media coverage are means to remove them. The State of California racially segregates inmates, then releases them back into communities with no racial conflict history. Politicians court the BLACK vote or the LATINO vote but never the COMMUNITY vote based on common interests. Professional BLACK and LATINO activists compete for the same dollars. Blacks kill blacks-yawn. Latinos kill latinos-oh well. Blacks and Latinos kill each other-LA TIMES feature!

  • I find it interesting to read two black opinions, albeit liberal/conservative, on the issue of black brown racial tensions. Perhaps a Latino voice would be a more appropriate counterpoint, but then again this is the LA Times, always willing to ignore the obvious.

  • A Liberal-Mexican coalition runs LA and the state. The Mexicans have strong connections to the illegal foreign national community. They can’t legislate against illegal gang members because of their cultural ties to that community. For example, the mayor’s grandfather was undocumented, Nunez was partially raised in Tijuana, and Joe Baca was raised in Mexico. They along with their liberal black and white allies are destroying this state. We need balance. We must expel these people from office and elect more centrist Democrats or moderate Republicans. Electing Parks as County Supervisor would provide some of the balance the city-county needs.

  • The killer of Jamie Shaw, was apparently in the U.S since age 4. Someone who finds it humane to label people who've been here their whole lives as "illegals", is probably not a good candidate to deal with human related social issues. Let alone to deport the parents of U.S born kids, which is apparently what Hicks implies should happen by 'ending protections' for illegal immigrants. Illegal immigration should be stopped by the feds. If local police started arresting folks in the streets for 'appearing illegal', or undocumented workers in LA were to be fired en masse, it'd create a situation worse than Hicks seems to have thought of.
