  • I got an idea...how about we take the money we waste on Agricultural susidies and use that to fund the FDA (that's billions of $, well more than what they guys say the FDA would need)...then we'd kill two birds with one stone...oh I forgot that's not possible cause huge multi national mega corporate Agri-business depend on government handouts more than welfare moms on crack...

  • I guess we are doomed to contend with bad food and bad drugs since there is obviously no way to ensure that either is safe. So the buyers must decide if they really need to buy a product from any of them, or to grow it them selves or do with out, at the penalty of death if they make the wrong choice

  • Kudos to both "fred" and "peter". Agree with both sentiments 100%.

  • Problem is the department, like everything else has become politicized. Corporations try to grease the wheels for less regulation and politicians follow the money. Who loses? The consumers. The FDA has to tighten its ability to inspect and regulate. The problems with Chinese products over the past few years is the clearest example yet. We may not have that "many" instances of food problems but how many deaths is "acceptable"?

  • I just read a bunch of generalities and a few numbers, but I must have missed something. Did either of these guys offer any practical solutions?

  • I think that depends on where your looking in particular. Some things they are A-OK and others they are MIA.
