What is vat grown meat???
Ronald Clymer @ 7:38 PM PDT, Jun 24, 2008
Vat-grown meat??!! Think I'd rather be a vegetarian. Would cutting back on meat off-set the cost and green-house gas contributions of long-distance transport of grain/fruits/vegetables? Even with our own 'organic' garden at home, we cannot grow enough to feed our family of six - it takes more land.

Each individual on this planet has personal responsibility. We can not survive without food, and we look to others to feed us.If it is wal-mart or the United States Government. It is foolish to think that these huge entities care if we starve. They do not. It is time for folks to grow their own food as much as possible.even a container garden on a porch can yield plenty of nutrition. On just a few acres goats or sheep and chickens can provide enough milk and eggs to share, and did you know that there are all manner of wild grains growing beside the highway. My family will eat, because we have taken responsibility for ourselves.

The problem with Jacob's response is the high food prices ARE being driven by shortages. Global grain levels are the lowest in many years. Free trade is good, but you have to have something to trade. We need more than trade, we need major policy changes like a stable population, and better water/land managment practices.

This world just needs a lot less people.
Steven Lynn @ 2:59 AM PDT, Jun 19, 2008
If there's 'blame' in this mess, the blame is with all of us, and is compounded by our daily actions. For example, farmland, which used to be the best land, bought up and sub divided into housing. Farms either close or move to marginal lands, with lower yields or different crops (eg hay, alfalfa, canola), and higher costs to bring them to market. We can all do something very small to make a near immediate impact. Grow your own veggies. Eat less (obesity is a huge western problem, anyway). Americans, stop blaming others. Do something towards fixing the problem, instead.

It is a population problem, not a food problem.
