  • i believe that: 1 -one is innocent till proven guilty.holding these detainees for 7years implies that they are guilty without evidence. 2 -its a voilation of human rights. justice is for all take them to courts and let them defend themselves. 3 -use of power muscle by the U.S goverment

  • We need to listen to these detainees closely. We are on a way to self destruction. If we loose the the war,we loose the people. And if that happens their will be Hell to pay.

  • I am very disappointed that neither Sulmasy, Kaye, or the other people who commented, say anything about the most important issues: What are these guys charged with and how do we go about determining whether the charges are true? Why is it that other countries, with a terrorism problem, seem to be quite happy allowing their civilian judicial system handle accused terrorists?

  • So where is the Big Zero going to put all these detainee? Bring them to our shores? Set them free and have them plan future attacks? Get a clue and wake up!

  • A JFK Democrat of over 45 years, I have recently had to vote for Libertarian Party candidates in order to maintain my democratic ethic (money and the news media now elects presidents and most other federal offiicals). There is no objective reporting anymore. News coverage is either "conservative" or "liberal", never representative of the majority of sentiment of the people who stand in between.

  • Guantánamo is the perfect place for this kind of wartime holding of the very worst of humanity engaged in combat against the USA. Obviously Geneva Conference privileges do not apply since these enemy agents are not representative of any government, and the rights of American citizens protected by the Constitution certainly do not appy to non-citizens.

  • Keep our lease on the territory there, but close down the prison. Brian in the North bay

  • We should simply tell our military,"Take NO prisoners".

  • Good, I hope we do have a new cabnet that is hawkish. What would happen if we had another 9-11 now that our economy is in a low? Americans don't realize how cruel the rest of the world is at times. I think that Obama has a more level head than "W" did and he will use power if needed. As Amercians we don't want to run and hide especially after 3 trillion of our money has been spent to, "rid the world of terrism".

  • This should not be a difficult debate. If we sink to the level of what we are fighting against in order to preserve ourselves, then what differentiates us from that which we are fighting? I think it speaks eloquently to the issue when John McCain, who would certainly be presumed to be predisposed towards harsh treatment of terrorists detainees, decries the use of torture. Guantanamo needs to be closed and America needs to bend every effort to retake the moral high ground.
