As California goes on gay marriage

EthanQ, Religious organizations have as much rightn to speak out on the issues as secular organizations. California is a democracy, and voters do not leave their faith or conscience behind at the ballot box.

Since the topic here is SECULAR marriage, isn't anyone else concerned about the extent of religious organizations attempt to control a governmental duty? Will we allow our prejudices to create TALIBANS of Americans?

Glen seems to be forgetting that bans on same-sex marriage were passed in LANDSLIDE in several states, meaning that Democrats support the ban. the upcoming electoral battle will turn out Democrats- in FAVOR of the ban.

In 2000 Californians voted to keep the legal term MARRIAGE as the union between a man and a woman. Over 66% voted in favor of this proposition. The Liberal Gay Activists have taken away the majority's RIGHTS. They have the money to sue and use the judicial system to change the law. They claim their rights are infringed upon and denied equal treatment under the law. I ask then, "When is the majority ever right?" Because when the majority votes someone is always left out....could it be because the majority knows down deep what is normal for society?

It never fails to astound me how many women are speaking out in favor of "traditional" marriage--you know, the kind where the bride vows to "serve and obey" her husband, and indeed become their husbands' personal property. (Remember that, ladies?) Women also have reason to reflect that their their right to vote did NOT come "from the people." The famous "slippery slope" argument could just have easily--and probably was--offered back then: If we let women vote, we'll have to let children and animals vote.

Congratulations Kate: you've just invalidated the unions of every single sterile couple and couple that decides not to have children. I hate to break it to you, but sex isn't just about procreation (ever heard of birth control? Yeah, people have sex for other reasons than babies) nor is love just about sex, nor is life just about raising children (by the way, you're also tossing out the families that adopt children: something that gays should easily be able to do if it wasn't for backward thinking legislation). So to argue that your skewed sense of biology should deprive people of their civil rights is to make a laughable argument.

Looks like our public education system is worse than I thought. I wrote: "The end of slavery was codified by the most democratic process possible -- CONSTITUTIONAL amendment." Someone else insisted that this isn't true. Yes, the Emancipation Proclamation was issued, but slavery wasn't officially outlawed until the 13th Amendmet was passed. In other words, my interlocutor, you haven't a clue what you are talking about. Didn't "have the votes?" Have you ANY idea what it takes to pass an amendment to the US Constitution? Anyway, equating the marriage laws to slavery is an indication of a profound psychological disorder.
