  • 3 a.m.: I don't want my president coming off a heroin high at 3a.m.; he should do his drugs as part of a relaxation ritual immed. post work, just as the great F.D.R. did, and be sober by bed-time. I also don't want him under the influence of religion, astrology, or the Heritage Foundation---none of which should be illegal. Personal history: What about attorneys who drink a jigger of scotch every other day?...or smoke a joint twice a week? The middle you have excluded is quite often the real road to the Palace of Wisdom, no matter what William Blake or Carrie Nation might have to say about it.

  • jjbell, that notion is ludicrous. Child neglect and abuse is still a crime. The point is, the people who are drug addicts will be drug addicts legally or illegally. People can do drugs and not be addicts, and integrate them into their lives. I know people who do cocaine sometimes, but aren't addicts. In fact, of all the people i know that do coke, its once every month or two, if that. Use and abuse are two different things, just like many normal people can have a drink and not turn into alcoholics. The answer to addicts isn't to jail them, along with people who are responsibly using the drugs, not abusing them, for recreation.

  • If our president and the fool that thinks it is ok to legalize drugs, both did use drugs, I would ask for a law to be passed ,that would make it mandatory for the president and the fool that thinks drugs should be legalized, to bury all the kids that died from the use of these legal drugs. We could call the cemetary The Drug Laws Paradise.

  • What is up with this comment area? I wrote maybe 60 words and tried to submit it. All I got was a message stating , you are limited to 650 characters. I wasn't even close. What is the problem here?

  • In his comments, DMAR makes the mistake of presuming authority on the part of the FDA to proscribe substances. The federal government, by virtue of the doctrine of enumerated powers, has no such authority. If an FDA is to even exist (and it shouldn't, per the Constitution), it should act solely as an advisory agency, like the Underwriters Laboratories does privately for electrical devices.

  • Once again, recommended reading for all -- the Consumers Union Report on Licit and Illicit Drugs at http://druglibrary.org/schaffer/Library/studies/cu/cumenu.htm This is the best overall review of the subject ever written. If you haven't read it, then you simply don't know the subject. You will find surprises on every page.

  • This guy's arguments are so lame I can't believe he was even an attorney let alone an attorney for the federal government. It worries me that we have people like this in government and it shows how much it's in shambles right now. Cully completely ignores the topic at hand and goes off on this tangent about how the President is smashed off heroin at 3am. He sidesteps the marijuana issue completely and jumps to probably one of the most dangerous drugs out there today. Malkavian is right, you can replace heroin with alcohol, which is legal, and we would still be wondering why the President is drunk at 3am.

  • By the way, if regulations forever prohibit sale of controlled substances, it's plain they will instead by sold on the streets. And illegal trafficking inevitably leads to violence and intimidation of communities by drug dealers.

  • Jacob says that adults should be free to consume what they want. But how realistic is that? Vioxx was taken off the market after a study should an under 5% increased chance of advers effects. What is the FDA going to do approve heroin or cocaine?

    DMAR @ 5:51 PM PDT, Apr 25, 2008

  • This guy is a liar how and why would yo both work in the same law firm and then try cases against each other? I work at a law firm and no one has ever once tried a case against an other person who works here, nice made up story
