  • Real Brother here. Thank you Jersey, by failing to address one issue I raise you validate each and every issue raised. The facts are the speech was an attempt to appease the very White Racists, White Supremacists and Black Man Hating Lesbians who are the main ones advancing the LIES and falsehoods about Black men. Shame on Brother Obama for patronizing these Enemies of the Black family. No Sellout. TKCAL

  • Bravo, Ms. Howley! A principled and articulate argument. To assume, as Ms. Hymowitz seems to, that domestic "cultural" changes happen in a vacuum is absurd. Bad policy and denial of liberty in one area might produce effects we're not as comfortable with in another. Damn! Just when we thought blind acceptance of the drug war was de rigueur.

  • In response to TKCAL: you're a complete moron, and complete morons are rare.

  • to Lucius: What difference does the ethnicity of the writer make? Based on your stated assumption, there's nothing that black people can write about the white community that has any validity, is that correct? There are any number of black-owned media in this nation and they most certainly discuss issues within the black community vis-a-vis the white community. Apparently I should pay no attention to them as they, according to you, know nothing of which they speak.

  • The facts are that the few Black men (less then 5% according to the DOJ) can't explain why 90% of Black women aren't with Black men and why 78% of Black children are living with a Single parent-usually the Black Man Haitng mother.Black women aren't with Black men because of the very lame stereotypes and lies about Black men that have dogged Obama this election.Until someone addresses the hatred that Black women have for Black men and the fact that 70% of Black women are gay we will continue to have high OOW Black families. • Obama's been on the other end of stereotypes about irresponsible, militant angry Black men turns around and uses the same stereotypes about Black men to endear himself to the very Black Man Hating Lesbians who started all the lies, rumors and stereotypes about Black men in the first place? I just can't get with that. TKCAL

  • That was the point I wanted to make. It's interesting that you find me to be racist for raising the issue of the ethnicity of the writers, but they can discuss my ethnicity and culture with complete freedom. (It goes both ways, brother, or not at all.) You speak of the "myriad of problems within the black community," but I see a myriad of problems within the white community as well, and within the Jewish community specifically, including some pretty funky values, such as patronizing African-Americans. But I'm a racist for raising those issues, right?

    Lucius @ 4:27 PM PDT, Jun 26, 2008

  • This is in reply to Lucius: Do you have anything to add regarding Senator Obama's speech? Since, as you state, your being black makes you a much better arbiter of what goes on in the black community (and I agree) why don't you say something worthwhile? This BS about being Jewish or white or whatever making someone incapable of seeing the myriad of problems within the black community is extremely pedestrian. Try to think deeper and come up with viable solutions rather than appearing to be racist.

  • There's an unbelievable lack of education within the black community. One must work hard while in school if one wants to be successful as an adult. Parents these days seem to be absent from their children's lives (both mothers and fathers). Having a child when so young, so uneducated, so lacking in establishing a solid relationship with a partner, has led to more poverty, more violence, more drugs, more crime. I would say to everyone out there, young men and young men, of all races, get your heads on straight and stay in school, get an education, do something with your lives. Be responsbile for god's sake!

  • What does the writer mean to suggest by seeking a society that does not separate children from nonviolent fathers. There should be consequences for all crimes against society. A pass on punishment should not be given just because the action would help raise a few statistics.
